I thought in order to run E85 you needed to change your injectors? Running E85 doesn't sound very good for our 335's.

I think that goes for if your run solely on E85.. Most guys are running a 30% mix of E85 into there normal unlead 91/93 octane gas... Which seems to be a safe mix and performance enhancement balance.

you should start to read up on E85. Currently there are no "injector" upgrades for the N54 motor. Their are also tons of guys running E85 in tuned cars with mixes ranging from 75/25, 70/30, 50/50... 91/E85 with very positive results..

i want to try this new firmware out, but the last time i tried map 5 on an open stretch of road, i got the half engine malfunction light on dash and had to drive with reduced power for awhile, so i'm scared lol.

i just stay with map 2 for now...

Is all you had to do was pull over, turn off and on your car to get rid of the CEL. I used to get it all of the time on my 07'.

well, i was headed somewhere so i kept driving with the reduced power. once i got where i needed to be i changed the map to 0, turned off the car for a good 10-15mins, inspected the hood while i waited, then turned it back on & *knock on wood* havent seen that engine malfunction again. i've stayed off map 5, but that day when i rode it, i loved it

I think they are taking the right approach with this by revising the auto learning logic of map 5 to better accommodate not only our normal fuels but now various E85 mixes as well. It's still early in the process but I know they'd be happy to get data in from as many customers as possible. Especially customers running less common combinations of mods and fuels.

Quote:
Hey guys,

We're working on revising map 5 to improve on road performance, more comprehensively autotune, and offer greater flexibility for the variety of fuels we're finding map 5 users running. Fuels including 91, 91 + octane booster, 93, 93 + octane booster, various mixtures of E85, and various mixtures of pump + race gas. Basically anything you can imagine. We've made a round of changes and now need some help collecting map 5 logs on various cars with various modifications and various fuels to evaluate the changes.

To help out just upload the attached firmware (it uses all the same settings as 3/25), do some CSV export logs on map 5 (2000-7000rpm in 3rd, 40-110mph on a safe private road, etc), and email them in along with your mods and fuel mixture. Thanks in advance to anyone who has the time to help!
Quote:
Thanks for the logs guys. Going to update the first post to 5/6 which has a slightly stronger version of map 5.

The new learning logic is enabled on all maps but is only used for boost targeting on map 5, and does not reset itself when switching maps. The only concern I have so far is the autolearning defaults high and works itself down. So if you jump right in on map 5 you'll get a 17psi target for a few moments which is very aggressive for pump gas cars. I suggest doing a few 3rd or 4th gear WOT blasts on map 1 or 2 after uploading this firmware before switching to map 5 to get the initial targeting closer. This is only an issue the first few runs on the firmware. From then on out it will always be working in the background.

In the near future I'll work up some algorithm to reset the learned values on a firmware update to conservative values to avoid this issue. Always better to learn up than down.

at this point the autotune map 5 will be the safest way to run e85 until more data is collected like mike said..

To me this is a huge step in the N54 world... this is something everyone who has access to E85 can take advantage of.. this will effect way more people than single turbo projects, big twin projects and so on.. not taking anything away from Rob Beck or Shiv but in reality most of us will probably not ever upgrade turbos.. this research will help everyone with a tune.. which is most of us

e85/93octane 50/50 pulls like a freight train with 5/9 beta firmware.

E85 has octane rating 100-105

just amazing!!!!!!

The car is a whole new animal.. lots more power.. id rather run E85 than meth at this point.. i think this is a good substitute for now

Both

Ethanol straight is about 30% less energy than an equivalent unit of gasoline, I believe.

Hmmm.....switched to the new hex but had to abort my run for some E85. On map 3, and 93 octane, it feels very smooth, but my boost is now topping out about 12.5 psi. what could be wrong? Running fbo except for exhaust.

i was toppung out at 17psi with meth before the hex update.
