Hi all, I recently bought a E90 with iDrive. It has a AUX in but it does not have a USB port. I would like to play music mp3 via USB flash drive (thumb drive). What do I need to do to make it work?

what year is it? i think the only retrofit is for ipod (not usb) that that requires disconnecting the cd changes. the dealer can install it.

Year 2006. I am looking for ways to make it work. I don't have / use ipod at all. USB flash drive is more convenience for me.

on e90 LCI, mp3 files can be copied into the idrive systems via USB. not sure pre-LCI though.

I don't have an Ipod. But I think Ipod is working with the iDrive. There is no USB port. Since I don't have the USB port, I cannot copy mp3 files to the iDrive via USB or use USB flash drive. This is giving me a headache. I am looking for a third party product that can help.

On the LCI with I-drive, the UBS slot is on the right hand side of the glove box. You may need a torch to find it if it's the same for pre LCI.

no luck. there is no USB slot.

I have the same problem
2009 e90 325 with iDrive
i don't see any usb slot, apart from the one under the arm rest, but it is blocked.

is there a usb slot in my car or not at all?

Well, my 09 E90LCI with Idrive and GPS has the USB slot inside the glove box on the right hand side. It's a bit hard to see and you may need a torch to find it. I am not sure if water good or non GPS will have any difference.

now i wanna ask you a few more things.
1.) does it not play music from usb? or must import into the HDD?
2.) does it support iphone/ipod?

You gotta import the music to the HDD. Out of memory, I think it doesn't support iPhone or iPod. Just have a read your driver manual, you will learn all about it.

I take out the plug and found that there is wire attached to it. Anyone know what it is?

it seems like a harness. You might be able to retrofit the part. you would probably have to pay BMW to code your car after buying the part though, or you could find somebody that knows how to code.

Check what options you have, i'm not sure you need coding or not. Call BMW up and ask about it, they can give you a quote to see if you need coding.

What do I need to do in order to have it?
Any idea on costing?
