really? how would they be able to tell whether the car has a catless DP unless they know what they look like?? or tell my the smell?
have some time(october 2017) until the inspection and was going to get the DP fix but no point of getting it then?

Answered your own question. They know exactly what it looks like. They have a huge screen with pictures from the manufacturer of what things should look like and where the belong. Ask me how I know.

I have been there for 2 hours stuck in the lane while a manager verified the 02 sensor and Cat were what belonged in a 2007 530i.
Mind you, I replaced the windshield on this vehicle and that was the sole reason I took this car thru the lane. No performance work. Not sure what set them off to go on a hunt... |

like MATT said above. they get state trained and tested on what cats look like. they have mirrors and cameras to find it. if you have a DP fix then you can have some sort of shield welded on or just have the dps taken off every 2 years

When I took it in for inspection last September before I had my DP, it was so fast. Don't recall them looking at any kind of pictures. But then they could be looking at them in the computer screen. Who knows.
I'll just take my chances too... a pain in the ass get it swapped back and forth! Let me know if anyone passed the inspection in NJ with a catless DP!

First inspection since installing catless DP tomorrow. Do I need to install the DP fix? Anyone have a link to instructions?
Edit: I just read that Cobb stage 2 auto clears codes so no need for the DP fix

The auto clear setting -at least on the JB4s- leaves the sensors in an unreadiness state to which inspection will fail you on anyway. So despite not throwing codes, if those sensors aren't showing ready with no faults then you're not out of the woods.
I was able to get through inspection with my catless DPs and a tuneable dp fix. It took several days of resetting codes, adjusting the dial and going through the drive cycles to come back clear/ready. This was through the Randolph station and keeping all the plastic undercarriage splash guards in place. The attendants didn't look under the car, just plugged in, read the computer and gave me a pass sticker. |

South Brunswick and whatever station is closest to Secaucus could not care or did not care about lack of main cats (with cel off via MHD/Cobb of course)

Passed in Secaucus with catless DPs and stock secondary cats. I threw back on my stock mufflers and plugged back in the vacuum thing to the muffler and was in and out in 5 minutes. Went thru with Cobb stage 2 map still installed no SES light on the dash or anything. No questions asked. Not my first time passing there without cats installed my previous car was fully straight piped too.

$90 and an hour later failed for the downpipes. Does anyone know a shop in north jersey that will pass me? Really don't feel like switching them out.

I know this is an old thread, but I've been searching with no luck. I just purchased a FBO car (including catless DP, Corsa catback exhaust, and JB4) and I'd love to find a shop in Northern NJ.
