Engine sounds like Diesel only at idle?

EDIT: Turns out it's the new clutch/fw throwout bearing. All is good!

Hey all,

My engine has been making very weird noises, sounding like a diesel engine.

When does this happen?
-Clutch pedal NOT in
-Only at idle, when engine has warmed up
-Goes away around 800 rpm

What has recently changed?
-I just swapped to a new single mass clutch/fw which makes a TON of noise, but only when the clutch pedal is in. I can't tell if the noise happens with the clutch in due to the noise.

Is this related to the new clutch? Rod knock? I feel like it isn't due to the fact that it goes away with revs. It doesn't sound like the slapping noise I've heard from knock videos, it sounds very similar to an idling diesel engine.

Any input is appreciated!

Thanks

Well usually that noise is associated with injectors and lifters. But N55 doesnt really have lifter noise even though its hydraulic. Check ur oil pressure if you can during idle.

Try to see if you can isolate the area and maybe take a video.

SMFW are known to chatter at idle which is why a lot of people that use them raise the idle to above 800rpm. A video of the sound would be helpful to figuring it out though.

Thanks guys, it's definitely not the injector noise (this is new). Video coming after work!
