2011 Bmw 330 (e92) Auto g/box fluid change
Hi,
Just got a quote to change the oil for the ZF auto box with a bmw specialist @ £390. They said they will remove as much oil as possible from the feed lines and torque converter, the price includes ZF LONGLIFE oil, pan, filter etc. Is that about reasonable? |

£218, or less if you get lucky on timings for Ebay codes! but then you need it fitted of course unless you have the kits to do it your self |

Yeah I just noticed there are the kits for 218 with free delivery, the ones on eBay only have 7 litres of oil, the quote I got was for 9 litres?
Do you think the extra 2 litres is to flush? Last edited by Bmw330; 09-07-2018 at 03:18 PM.. |

It's a tricky job and needs to be done right. There are ZF affiliates dotted around the country who can do it; search the ZF site. |

So the 6 litre kit will only replace approx half the oil?, is there anyway to get the rest out?. Ive read a few people leave it to drain overnight and get 7-8 litres out?
What is the mechatronic sleeve? I can’t see that on my quote. Looking at my quote it includes 9 litres of ZF oil Pan/filter/gasket Electrical connector 2.2hrs Labour What’s the reason why all fixings are included in the ZF kit? (Unless they are damaged) and the mechatronic sleeve? Last edited by Bmw330; 09-08-2018 at 02:50 AM.. |

Can't remember if the 330d runs the 6hp19 or 6hp26 box, but you could always message them for advice etc. |

I just contacted the company and they stated the kit on eBay 171676873232 is the correct one for my specific car (330d), so £218 with fixings or £169 without from their website
So I can save myself approx £80 from buying the kit without fixings through their website compared with the bmw specialist main dealer parts! Last edited by Bmw330; 09-08-2018 at 03:45 AM.. |

I’m courius how they change the fluid in the converter, part of my wants to disconnect the cooler and flush from there, outlet to a bucket and feed in fresh oil to the inlet when running till it’s clean.
My current plan is buy 20 litres of oil, drain mine and keep the oil filter on and run it for a few mins, dump and repeat till it’s clear or I run out of fluid. If you drain it without removing the sump you get about 3-4 litres out if I recall when I gave it a quick oil change before. |

I read if you purely drop the pan you will only get approx 3-4 litres, if you leave overnight another 3-4 litres should drain. I believe the box holds about 12 litres?, so will only be about 60% removed.
I think I’ll buy the kit and ask the specialist if he can do it still with the 2.2 hours Labour ..... Last edited by Bmw330; 09-08-2018 at 04:12 AM.. |

"This item doesn't fit BMW 3 Series 2011 E92 [2005-2013] Coupe Coupe 330d 2993ccm 245HP 180KW (Diesel)." I own the same BMW, and from prior research on the ZF site, knew that the kit reference number is 8700 252. It's your choice as to what parts to use and who does it. Not something I'd want to get wrong. |

They checked the kit against my chassis number, I notice their website doesn’t state the e92 as an option so that’s probably why it states not compatable?. They also have a metal pan upgrade option, with replaceable filter which will cut down on future oil service costs.
If you look st the ZF website it quotes only 6 litres of fluid is supplied for the 6HP26. It appears their instructions don’t attempt to get any oil from anywhere else apart from the pan. https://www.zf.com/global/media/medi...t_50145_EN.pdf Last edited by Bmw330; 09-08-2018 at 11:20 AM.. |

As to resonance, no more than expected from a diesel at 650rpm. You can feel it and hear it but it's nothing. What it isn't is a 3L 6 cylinder BMW petrol. Very different driving experience. The petrol was fun (a Z4 3L), but for every day driving the 330d plus auto takes some beating. |

I’m assuming the guy checking actually confirmed via some method, maybe their website just isn’t up to date. I looked on Bmw autoparts website (which sells genuine parts) and for the pan kit it quotes it fits the e90 330d, e91 330d, e93 330d and e93 330d, including various others in the Bmw range, so it’s common across the e90 series range.
I’ve had a few diesels, and a previous e60 530 which was smooth, but the e92 just feels unrefined at idle, I can only assume the rpm is picking up the natural frequency of something and causing the resonance. If I’m sat at traffic I can feel it through my legs and back, it’s going back to Bmw next week see if they can identify anything, or maybe raise rpm slightly..... To flush, I used Mannol ZF spec fluid. Drained the box, filled with Mannol, ran the car then drained again, replaced the sump and filled with ZF Lifeguard.
The Mannol was about £35 for 8 litres and to ZF Lifeguard spec. |
