Powerstop Evolution brakes - My impressions

I just replaced the oem BM brakes on our 2007 335i sport as they were down to about 20% pad left. I ended up buying Powerstop Evolution Z23 carbon fiber ceramic brakes. They did come with the caliper pin lube and anti raddle clip hardware too.

After now driving a couple hundred miles, comparing them to the oem BMW brakes they do not "bite" as quickly. The old oem pads grabbed quicker and with less brake pedal travel. With that said the new pads may not be completely broken in yet.

I will say the braking action is linear and there is still plenty of stopping power. Just a difference on how quickly and forcefully the pads brake compared to oem. There is also almost no dust with the new pads too which is great.

Overall, I would recommend these pads to someone who wants to retain good braking power, linear braking force and very low brake dust. The only trade off that I see is initial braking bite. Just thought I'd throw this out for those people in the market for new pads.

Hi Boland01,

I have a 2006 330i that requires rotor and pad replacement. Saw your post and was wondering what are your feelings now about the Powerstop?

I was also considering the Z23 CF brakes as I can buy the complete kit for about 40% cheaper than the OE components. Would you still recommend them? The lack of initial 'bite' does concern me a bit as I'm a fairly aggressive driver.

We have put a couple thousand miles on the car since we first installed the pads. they have now bedded in and the braking action is just fine. They do bite a little less aggressively initially compared to the oem pads but if you need to get on them they work just fine. Hardly any brake dust too.

My other son did put Hawk pads on his 335i and he really likes those. A little bit of dust but nothing compared to the oem's.

I think the biggest difference you are seeing between the 2 is the OEM was metallic and the new ceramic Powerstop pads.

I have used 2 different sets of Powerstop pads and love them. As you have noticed, much less dust. You get used to the feel of the brakes in no time, but for me the benefit outweighed any negative (none for me).

They seem to wear very evenly and have great longevity.
