Options for increasing 330d/335d MPG whilst keeping performance
My 335d is coming up to 180k and starting to get a bit tired. I've owned it for the last 60k and do a lot of miles, 800+ week. I like the way the car drives, how quick it is and the ease in which it does both. I used to get around 38-40 mpg sat at 80-85mph on the motorway where I spend 75% of my time, but this has started to fall.
I've reached the point where I don't want to put any more money into the car and risk losing it all with the engine or gearbox going and being stuck with a large repair bill. And so would rather sell it and get a newer and lower mileage one. I've looked at the F30 330d which with a stage 1 remap through avon tuning would get up to 320bhp without too many modifications but I can't justify spending £15-20k on a car for work that will inevitably get scratched and damaged driving down narrow country lanes. A lot of tunes state they give x amount of economy increase but that'll always be best case and there are a lot of contributing factors which will affect this. What are the real world figures that people have been able to achieve driving at a normal pace rather than sitting at 50 on the motorway in the slow lane. What options are there for the e90 330/335d's that will actually increase economy? Any help is greatly apppreciated. |

have you replaced your MAF? I was experiencing low mpgs, but had no other signs. replaced MAF since it was only 25$ for genuine and mpgs are back up to normal. I'm at 175k mi.

I got the new one, which is genuine, and have my old one in the "toolbox" if the new completely went out I can use the old until the replacement arrives. so I didn't see a need to paying for a brand new one to sit in a box to save me a couple days shipping. |

replace your motor mounts...huge reduction in noise, vibration and harshness.
Stepping back I think you have it all wrong. Based on the scenario you laid out seems to me that you are actually on the cusp of dropping approximately 10 to 20 grand into your car. to do otherwise would be disloyal to the chat |
