Mine is not a lease and with JB3, have one incident about the HFPF when it was $9k,also have to change the RFT at 14k miles, but that is a wear and tear. So far the warrenty is holding well. Hopefully when it ran out I don't have to pay for anything that breaks down just the maintacnce stuff is needed to the car.

I always try to go 2 years past paying the car off. So that will end up being in 200K miles on mine when it's done. We will see.

I plan on driving mine until the wheels fall off OR monthly maintenance costs get out of hand. I bought my BMW after my previous car finally threw a couple of pistons so that I had to buy another car. I bought my '08 328i last month with 40K mi for well less than half the cost of a similar equipped new 328i.

Unless you want a new car every few years (I was guilty of that)....then now matter what the maintenance costs it will not equal that of payments on a new car. Example $800/mth = $9600/yr. If you spend more than half of that on maintenance consistently year over year than you truly have a lemon and you may want to get rid of it.

BUT the way I see it if i spend $10k (I do not want to, but let's use this as an example) on maintenance over the course of 4/5 years past warranty it is far less than $9-11k per year for a new one.

Again yes you will have an older vehicle but there is no way even with tax deductions etc you are going to spend more if you keep and maintain your existing vehicle. Case in point....have you ever seen an accountant with a new car? lol

Im at 70k already in 3 years so 150k at a minimum...Maybe 200 if I'm lucky. Hopefully I'll be able to move closer to work to reduce the miles. I drive 60 miles each way.

Having driven the wheels off of several cars, I've found that the point where I start looking for getting rid of an older car is when you start averaging ~$200/mo in repair costs (with BMW it'll be a bit more; for my old Porsche, I hit that point at ~$300/mo).
It's not the one-off repair; it's when you need 2-3 major parts replaced in a year (ex: air conditioning compressor, alternator, set of 4 tires, timing belt, clutch, etc) and the car is starting to show its age. As long as you take reasonable car of a car, they usually don't start chewing through a lot of parts for a decade or more.
