High beam not working

E91, Nov 2007.

The highbeam does not work on any of the headlights. The icon illuminates in the dash - but the lights are still on low beam. I have the adaptive xenons.

If i turn off the lights and pull the stalk - the headlights will turn on low beam, not high.

Am I lucky that it might be a fuse? or am I looking at a much much more expensive problem?

Did you get any coding done recently?

When you pull the stalk does it activate the bi-xenon shutter or just fires the xenons? What happens when you push the stalk forward with the low beams on?

No coding done recently. Nothing happens when either pushing or pulling the stalk.

Checked the fuses - I cannot see anything wrong. The two 40AMP fuses were nto blown (84+86)

Now what to do?

There is a little electric motor inside the headlight that controls the flapper. If the fuse is ok then that motor could be burnt out.

Unfortunately this part is not available separately however it is not common to burn out so it may be something else, unless you got water in your headlight.

I *hope* it is a fuse or a broken wire - since it is both headlights that are not working. If the selenoid/motor had burnt out, I'd suspect only one of them not working.

Do you know what pin in the plug gives the signal to the selenoid?

Good point, most likely not the motor then. Not sure about which pin it is sorry. First time I have heard of anyone having this issue

Funny Thing.. I hooked up the laptop and ran Rheingold. No errors. I can activate the high beam from Rheingold just fine, but nothing happens when pulling the stalk, apart from the blue icon.

Wtf!?

I just read the NFRM - it is here: https://cloud.catcams.dk/public.php?...d0c5f61b24a13d

Can anybody see anything wrong in it? I can activate the high beam in Rheingold - so the selenoids are working and the wiring must be intact. But I cannot activate the high beam from the stalk. I'm really going insane now..

Just an update - problem solved by reseting the shor circuit counter. Apparently the bixenon shutter is not reset with the same job as the other SC counters..

Use "steuern_reset_kurzschlussabschaltung"with the name (yes, the string) from Lampeninfo and not the index like you would with "_reset_kurzschluss_sperre".

I know this is old, but I am having the same issue. Can I reset the short circuit counter with BMW Protools?
