Halogen vs Halo Light vs High Beam

Great post on which type of bulbs are used for each light. I was wondering if the halo is the halogen bulb or the xenon. Is that different from the high beam? I just want to make sure I don't mix my stock bulbs with LED bulbs

Hi Guys,

Had to do some research to replace a brake light on my E92 (pre-LCI) and "W16W" as you all probably know is something that you can't go into the parts store and ask for... put together a list of Sylvania part numbers that you can actually buy in the US... hope this is helpful. I just did the exterior lights but will flesh this out if I need to replace any of the interior ones.

Lighting – 2009 BMW 335i E92 coupe (pre-LCI)
Application BMW ECE Osram/Sylvania Notes
Headlight (outer – low/high beam) 63217217509 D1S D1S
Headlight (inner – cornering lamp) 63217160779 H3/55W H3/55W
Front Parking/DRL (halo ring) 7119906503 H8/35W H8/35W
Front Directional Light 63217161306 PSY 24W SV 5200S “Silver Vision”
Fog Light (Except as below) 7119906503 H8/35W H8/35W
Fog Light (with P337 or S715A) 63217160784 H11/55W H11/55W M-Sport or M-Aerodynamics
Front fender signal repeater (silver) 63217165496 Osram 2827DC "Diadem Chrome" up to 01/2010, BMW p/n discontinued
Front fender signal repeater (yellow) 63217160798 WY5W 2827
Tail Light -- -- LED
Brake Light (fender) 63217160935 W16W 921 2 bulbs each side
Rear Directional 63217176025 PY21W 7507
Rear Directional (silver) 63217160897 PY21W SV Philips 12496 “Silver Vision” or Osram 7507LDA "Diadem" or Osram 7507DC "Diadem Chrome"
Reverse 63217160935 W16W 921
CHMSL -- -- LED
License Plate -- -- LED
Rear Fog Light/Brake Light (trunk lid) 63217160788 H21W 64136

Damn German cars... seems like every time I get a new one I have to do this whenever I need to replace a bulb

As per usual the Sylvania catalog at the parts store wasn't completely accurate...

OK, there is a bit of a confusion here: the brake bulbs - the OP lists H21W, while some of the other posts including the Sylvania list above have it as W16W.

Why ? Or it is the the W16W is actually the tail light not the brake but it's too common to call it "brake", and the H21W is the correct brake bulb ?

There's three brake light bulbs per side - two W16Ws in the fender, which are the normal brake lights, and one H21W in the trunk lid, which only comes on under hard braking or as a rear fog if you have enabled them. The actual tail/running lights don't use bulbs, they're LEDs.

That is very useful info, thanks ! I think this should be clarified in OP.

Is there any way w/o any ohm meters and such to test out these bulbs ? For the reg brake you can in your garage but for the hard brake ones you can't...

Just turn on your rear fog lights

That sounds like a smartass answer but I'm still pissed off that BMW saw fit to not allow us to use them over here, that was the first "mod" I ordered for my car, literally the first weekend after getting it.

Just edited post #96; apparently Osram is still making "stealth" WY5W bulbs for your repeaters even though you can no longer buy them at your local BMW dealership. The package is simply marked WY5W Diadem Chrome. Probably have to order them online, I haven't seen any in stores (but have seen equivalents from more ricer-oriented brands, but I like to stick with names like Sylvania, Osram, etc.)

Prompted by another thread this AM, I finished up the interior bulbs, this is again for a Pre-LCI car (2009) don't know if LCI are different.

I could not verify the rear footwell lights as I couldn't get the lenses out with my hands and my plastic trim spoons are in a very safe place (I know where they are, it's just a PITA to get to them) but I'm pretty sure those are right based on pics found on the interwebs.

Dome Light (front or rear) bulb not listed separately W6W 2886X 12V 6W XENON (same size/shape as W5W or 194)
Front Footwell Light 63217160797 W5W 2825
Rear Footwell Light (2 bulbs ea. Light) 63217169186 W2.3W 2723 T5 12V 2,3W
Puddle Light (bottom of doors) 63217160798 W5W 2825 Error in catalog? BMW p/n is incorrect for W5W bulb
Map Light (front or rear) 63217160908 W6W 2886X 12V 6W XENON (same size/shape as W5W or 194)
Dome Light or Map Light Bulb Socket 63258389736 or ECS Tuning ES# 175023 – verified by E90post user MCM (not in catalog)
Mirror Lamp (above sunvisor) 63217160912 Osram K5618 41mm Festoon 12V 10W (6411 is same bulb)
Glovebox Light bulb not listed separately C5W GE 7546F 37mm Festoon 12V 5W (6418 is same bulb)
Trunk Light 63217160912 Osram K5618 41mm Festoon 12V 10W (6411 is same bulb)

Does anyone know how to take a spreadsheet and export it to a format that will allow me to post it here as an attachment, so if you wanted to print this nicely formatted and keep it in your glovebox or owner's manual folder you could?

By the way if you are looking up bulbs for your car and the ECE number is listed in the owner's manual, this Wikipedia page has some of the numbers you can find in the US listed for the more common bulb types

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of...ght_bulb_types

I added some of them myself as I've got bulb charts for three different German cars saved on my PC, as I've stated before this isn't the first time I've done this. Had I found that page (if it existed) years ago would have saved me some slogging through catalogs and reading of faint little numbers on bulb bases!

For pre-LCI E92 (and presumably E93 as well)

Rear Fog Light/Brake Light (trunk lid)
BMW 63217160788
ECE H21W
Osram/Sylvania 64136

Don't know what it would be for E90 if it is the same or not. I guess if you are trying to pick one up at the parts store look your car up on realoem and see if it uses the same BMW part no. bulb.

I think this is the thread you want

http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=46758

What would be nice is if we could come up with a master list for all different E9xs... I could see possible differences between

E90
E91
E92/E93

then there's pre- and post-LCI

Now this is something that I'm usually good at pulling together because having worked on scads of old Studebakers I've actually cross-referenced tons of Stude factory part numbers to trade numbers or aftermarket part numbers (esp. for things like fan belts, generator brushes, things like that.) But that is a rabbit hole I don't really need to go down today when I should be looking for a job instead... I've already done the best job I could with the pre-LCI E92 which I actually have at my disposal to inspect (and what I actually need the bulb chart for...)

Anyway here I believe is the diagram that you want

http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts...74&hg=63&fg=20

and assuming that the rear fog is #6 in the diagram then yes that also is a H21W bulb.

I've been searching for a while now and find so many different values.

I'm looking to swap side markers and reverse lights on a '13 LCI E92. (want white side markers and much much brighter reverse lights for use behind tinted windows in the city)

Has anyone determined the final type of bulb? I've read H21W, which doesn't seem too specific. I've read 921 on websites like E92-Lighting. I've read P26WY (or w/e that one is, which isn't LED so I'm pretty sure that's not it). edit - i've now seen 921 and 194 as potential side markers? though some sites suggest 921 are reverse lights too?

Searching through I only found a couple of "lists" but none seem to be up to date!

Any help - greatly appreciated =)

Amber bulb

Hi I was wondering If it's possible to remove the amber/yellow bulb threw coding or If not does a replacement bulb exist?

After installing the lux v4's it's been bothering me.

Thanks to EAS for the picture!
