Yeah Bro, so what I did was place the sensor under the end of the black patch. So it's resting a bit lower.

Would you say that the below picture has the right parts?

my e91 is from year 2005/11
There was no light and rain sensor.
I installed the glass for sensor, rls and control switch.
In ncs the analog value of rls varies but it does not work in automatic with the car.
Can you send DIY with the necessary parameters to change?

Have you checked the sensitivity for when the lights switch off?

It could be the sensor that's damaged. Did you follow the instructions above on the coding side?

Sorry I've not seen these notifications. Have you seen the schematics? Did you sort it out in the end?

I know there's been some discussion but there hasn't been an answer given to this. Whenever someone raises a RLS retrofit, it is quickly dismissed. I have been asking the same question for a while now and I only recently found the answer after looking for ages.

So I thought Why not give back to the rest of the community and share the knowledge?

For all those interested, my BMW e90 was without a RLS and I prefer the lights to come on without having to do anything similar with the rain sensor. - So here is the guide of what you need to do.

You will need a RLS switch, RLS stalk, RLS prism, an extended mirror cap ( I will attach an image and links of everything) I am from the UK so the links would probably be UK seller's.

The schematics of the RLS wiring is -

https://www.newtis.info/tisv2/a/en/e...inputs/upOxh9C

Installation location - https://www.newtis.info/tisv2/a/en/e90-328i-lim/RS71SKM

When you take the plug out of the FZD (roof module) it is labelled on the back of it what number the pins are. From some wiring schematics, I found out to Install pin 8 as the power +, pin 7 as the power - and 6 as the bus wire K-CAN. There are 4 cables connected to the RLS but only 3 need to be connected

I bought this cable from eBay and fits like a glove this connects to the RLS :- https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/5-St%C3%B...72.m2749.l2649

The wiring will need to be cut at the end and attached with a pin to go into FZD link for this is -

https://uk.rs-online.com/web/p/autom...30393738303826

For the RLS to be stuck on the windscreen you will need a prisms, please ensure it is lined up properly before it is stuck on as this will be difficult to take off - https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BMW-3-SER...oAAOSwXPNaGCqm

Once everything is coded you will need coding NCS Expert will need to be used and if you aren't sure what to do please take it to someone who knows what they are doing as you don't want to brick a module -

Code $521 to the. Vo, modify the fzd, nfrm and RLS with the required settings and that's it! You now have auto lights and auto wipers!

In the case your auto lights work and you rain sensor doesn't use INPA to calibrate the sensor, follow this guide -

I hope this helps! Also, I did not change the windscreen or anything like that this is a standard windscreen some people say you need a special windscreen this is not the case I can assure as it works on mine.

Feel free to ask any questions, I will attach images to help.

Credit to Hallamnet and his advise on this retrofit
Thanks buddy. I have bought all of the parts to retrofit this on my E87. Do you know where the FZD roof module is located in my E87? I assume the same location as your E90. Is it in / behind the interior lights roof panel thanks?

FZD is the front interior light module in headliner
some early e87 may not have it at all if the options list is small

Could do with some help if anyones still familiar with this retrofit.

Ive wired it and cannot communicate with the RLS.

I've attached a picture to how ive wired it. the connector on the RLS with the indent bit I believe is pin 1, this goes into the FZD according to the attached picture and so on.

Ive added $521 to CAS and NFRM and default coded (SG codieren) CAS, NFRM, FZD and attempted RLS but got an error message.

I cannot access the RLS in INPA it gives an error that it cant communicate with it.

Would anyone be kind enough to give a detailed description of the wiring and the coding required for this retrofit please?

Cheers.

I had to pull my sensor off after I put it on too far over and couldn’t get the mirror shroud back on, as a result there’s some bubbling on the sensor.

Auto lights work fine but the rain sensor doesn’t really work unless you blast water at the windshield pretty much right on the sensor.

I have a spare adhesive pad, is it possible to peel the existing adhesive off the prism and then reinstall it with the new pad or am I best just getting a prism?

I would go for the new pad the bubbles down the line could cause some issues.

Hey, what did you change in fsw_psw files and to which module to activate rain and light sensor?
