2012 BMW 328i Touring (Full N54 Conversion)

BIMMERPOST / Classifieds
Asking Price:
Sold

Item Interest
$23,000 OBO. I am now living in New York City, the wagon is stored at my parent's place in Portland, OR. If anyone is interested, reach out to me and we can try to figure something out.

Up for sale is my 2012 BMW 328i Touring with a complete 6MT N54 swap. For those that don't understand what this is, this probably isn't the car for you. Everything under the body has been replaced/upgraded with 335i components.

The body and engine have almost identical mileage on them, my n54 parts car had 108k while the e91 donor had 112k. Currently the odometer is sitting almost at 115k, all of which are miles I've put on after the swap was completed. The car runs flawlessly, with everything functional just like a normal 335i. Cruise control, hill-start assist, all the little things work as they should.

Both the shell and the donor were salvage title vehicles, I have pictures of all the damage.

Maintenance completed:
-Oil Filter Housing Gasket
-Injectors (used index 12's)
-New brake rotors/pads
-Walnut blast @ 112k
-New pulleys, tensioner and belt
-New ignition coils
-NGK 97506 spark plugs, installed at 108k
-New motor mounts, both sides
-Aluminum power steering pulley
-Two coolant flushes (just preventative, I didn't know the condition of the swapped motor)
-Oil changes every 1k-3k miles (also just because I wanted to make sure the donor engine was solid)

Modifications:
-5" VRSF Intercooler
-VRSF Downpipes and Street Exhaust
-VRSF Chargepipe
-Turbosmart BOV
-VRSF Intakes
-BC Racing Adjustable Coilovers
-MHD Stage 2+ Map
-M-Sport front & rear bumpers
-Carbon fiber rear diffuser

This was my dream project for the longest time and two years ago I finally pulled the trigger and did it. It's been an absolute blast to own and drive, but life has a way of tossing unexpected circumstances our way. I'll be moving to New York City by the end of November to start a new job, and while I wish I could take the wagon with me, there's no way I can make it work. I'd love to see this go to a good home, to someone who has as much of a passion for station wagons as I do lol. If you'd like to chat more, feel free to message me! I might not respond right away, as I'm trying to wrap up all my loose ends before I leave, but I will do my best.

Here's a link to my build thread here on e90post, I have a lot of pictures and updates of the entire conversion process:
https://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1616749

Also, I've been running an Instagram page for the build as well as a YouTube channel if anyone wants to see more photos or videos of the car!

I'd be writing a check right now if it was xdrive. Someone's gonna get a wonderful car!

Interested but how would one pass emissions of the VIN from OBD doesn’t match VIN on title? Also with salvage title I think some states require the car be inspected by the DMV making the above even more of an “issue”

Beautiful car, i am jealous!

Have you put 115k on it since building or there was the 108 or 112 plus a few k miles since?

Same concerns I had...aside from ongoing maintenance for transplanted N54.

The VIN from OBD DOES match the VIN on the title. It's the same as getting a replacement DME if your old one fries. On BMW's the VIN is actually read from the CAS module, rather than the DME. I had the donor n54 DME matched to my factory CAS module.

When plugged into by a scanner or anything like that, the car reads the original chassis VIN, which is also the secondary VIN in the DME.

I took the time to make everything right with this swap. If anyone's concerned about it, I'd be happy to take the car through my local emissions testing site to prove it reads the factory VIN. No guarantee I'll pass though, catless downpipes might make it difficult haha

115k total mileage. I've driven it about 7k miles after the swap!

4 snows would solve that. I drive my rwd BMW's thru New England winters. Granted I don't drive the E30M or the E36M but I do drive my 332TI.

Updating post, feel free to make me an offer!

I've priced it at what I think it's worth, after taking a look at current manual wagon prices, and factoring in the salvage title. If you don't agree, feel free to shoot me an offer. I do need the car gone by the end of this month. The worst I can say is no lol

Seems very fair relative to plain E91s sold. Will Cars and Bids do salvage title? Seems like a good spot for it. I didn't realize that you had more time. BaT or C&B sold an E36 wagon with S54 swap. BaT sold other motor swapped BMW wagons.

Vermont has no major issue with salvage/rebuilt titles. Drag it along when you head east and I'm sure we can get it sold out here!

Or, for those that live in other states that have tighter emissions and laws, Vermont is very friendly to out-of-state car registrations, so there are options.

And completely absurd to ask - what would it take to make this car xDrive? Because then you can have all my money!!

**Also, is the current build titled at all? I see mention that both donors were salvage titles, but is the rebuild titled with a "rebuilt" status?

I wish I could bring it, but to answer two questions with one stone, no I never registered it here in Oregon. I was chasing an O2 sensor issue and I finally figured it out a month ago, so the car wasn't able to pass emissions until now. DMV wait times are insane here in Oregon, I have friends who have been waiting for titles for over half a year now. Figured I would just hand it off to the next owner with the salvage title it's got, so they can apply for a new one and make the whole process much easier. Also, I'll be living in the middle of NYC. I can't afford to pay $500 a month for parking lol.

As for the xDrive conversion, it's doable but not worth it. You'd have to cut out the rwd transmission tunnel and weld in an xDrive one, as well as change quite a few other things. It'd be easier to build an entirely new xDrive wagon IMO haha

They will, I had a dealership local to me reach out and offer to sell it with me through bring a trailer. But unfortunately, I'm on too short of a time frame like I said earlier. The process will take a couple of months, I've only got another 20 something days left before I fly out for good to NYC

Haven't had a chance to take some good ones! It's been a bit hectic lately, tying up a lot of loose ends. I'll see if I can take some tomorrow and I'll update the posting!

In your build thread you mentioned adding the idrive dash. Did you ever do that?

It's unfortunately not as easy as it seems. In most states (including Oregon most likely), salvage cars need to go thru a state inspection to verify the origin of the parts used in rebuild process, as well as safety requirements.

Again, in most states, you cannot operate this car legally on public roads until it's inspected. That doesn't mean emission inspection or registration. Even dealers are not able to legally operate salvage titled cars on public roads, unless inspected. It's all written right in the dealer manual

By trying to sell this car with its original salvage title, you're putting it on buyer to go thru this hassle. One would have to provide receipts for parts used in rebuild process, as well as a statement from state certified mechanic that all repairs were done in workmanship like manner and according to industry standards.

It looks like you have some type of "Transporter" plate on there. I'd suggest to whomever is buying it to verify the legality of operating this car to even get it home (buyer's state laws apply here).

Oh, I assumed this had gone through the process and was "rebuilt" as we call them in FL already. This puts a twist on things. With using a donor car for body parts it should have been no problem to document and get cleared. People here rebuild them and sell them and don't tell the owner that it hasn't gotten the rebuilt title and people get stuck. Hopefully with the titles for both cars and receipts it can still be done.
