Question where to install non RFTs

I read that mainstream tire shops may not install non RFTs due to potenital liability. For those of you that installed non RFTs, did you have any issue with tire shops not wanting to do this? Will any of the established places do this? thx in advance.

I suspect it's restricted to one or more big tire shops (e.g., costco). Tirerack gives names of shops they use and it sounds like they will mount them (one probably has to sign a waiver to protect them).

You'll just have to try the various shops out... Different companies have different policies, but the main law that came in effect was that the newer cars need to have a TPMS sensor, so that the car can notify you as soon as it detects a loss of pressure, reducing dangerous situations.

To change from RFT to non-RFT's its more a matter of getting stuck in the middle of nowhere because our cars don't come with spare tires. But thats BMW's fault

I think they are resistant to RFT's on non-RFT cars that don't have TPMS. In fact I know that they don't put them on unless the car has TPMS. Costco will put conventional tires on your car as long as the are factory sizes, same with Sears, Discount and Tire Pro's in AZ.
