Agreed with the above - why make things more complicated when fitting it like the factory intended is very easy? If you already have LDM, it will have a line to CAS 15WUP. If you're adding LDM, connect it to 15WUP. For the ACC sensor, add a pin to the 15WUP_AC pin on the CAS.

It might work doing it differently than the factory, but as you're saving little to no effort why introduce the uncertainty should you need to troubleshoot down the line?

Fascinating. A Finnish phrase: "There is nothing as wise as German engineer." Holds true.

15WUP_AC is the empty slot because it's used only by ACC. 15WUP is used by the whole car.

Just install it already!

Hi Guys!
Been reading the forum for a while, just now registered, because I have doubts.

So, I'm gathering parts to retrofit the ACC, got the stalks for 80€, got the radar for 50€ , the wiring for 20€.

and looks like im missing the LDM, my car , as ISTA says, is 03/2007, but Mdecoder says its 2007-05-15 (https://www.mdecoder.com/decode/wbavu91020kt03392)

anyways, it does not have the famous LDM module.

I have almost everything clear with the ACC radar and everything, but my biggest doubt, is how exactly do I wire the LDM.

I found some modules on the internet, but without any connectores, and cant figure out, how many wires do I need, and where exactly do I have to connect them...

It would be great if someone could help me with some instructions, which LDM wire, goes where on the car etc etc, I've tried searching but cannot find anything, maybe I just cant use the search properly...

anyways, thank you very much!!

It would be easiest if you can buy the LDM with the connector and a short length of wiring included, but of course you can buy the bare connector and pins from BMW and build your own connector from scratch.

Yes Im trying to do that, but can't find any decent one here in Spain,

will try going to a Junkyard some day soon and see if any of the cars still has the LDM and cut it with wiring.

Hi Guys! I am doing this retrofit but I am kinda stuck at the calibration bit. I tryed calibration with both inpa and ista, I manage to obtain a pass on both vertical and horizontal and no error codes but when I start driving the car, cruise control works for a bit then sometime recognize the car in front and sometimes not. After a few times trying to keep the distance from the preceding car, it throws me the cruise control fault message and reading the error gives me back sensor misalignment.. I have sensor 6773866. Winkfp does not recognize this zb number but it has in the database 6777883 which is the more recent hardware number. Should I try to code it with this last number? Or I just have to go for a proper alignment at the dealer? (I used a mirror like everyone but apparently the sensor doesn't get aligned properly.. Ista is saying that newer software versions (30.0) are better for the alignment... I think I have this newer version but I can't 😂

Later cars will need to add LDM to get ACC, as it was fitted to earlier 6-cylinder cars with cruise control but removed past 2007 or so.

Retrofit ACC to 4cyl 320d E91 thru an Arduino Due CAN Bus bridge

Hi hupchye, I see that you are already wrote about my retrofit, but because of engine problems I didn't have time to write.

Thank you master hupchye and to aeroshurik for all suport !!!

I'am also currently rertofitting the ACC to my BMW E91 320d (2011 year) manual transmission and 3 weeks ago I have finished step 1 without real success: my car is holding speed , seeing objects on the dashboard and displaying the line on the left on dashboard that is displayed when the mileage is running, the car is changes the display icon yellow , red when the distance is small.

I can confirm that ACC with hupchye solution (Arduino Due CAN Bus bridge) work on E91 diesel with 4 cylinders

Hi everyone,

Thanks for all the input regarding this retrofit. I managed to do it on my EU spec E91 335i LCI. Initially I thought that I would just require the sensor but apparently, when I wrote the FA, ISTA wanted a LDM module as well so I had to get that hooked up.

Now, I am currently stuck at the calibration phase. Did anyone manage to calibrate the sensor without using that specific mirror that BMW requires? When I used ISTA and ignored the mirror settings (I just had a normal mirror 120cm away from the car, centered as well as I could) I ended up maxing out some adjustments so, clearly it doesn't work.

Am I missing something here or must I get robbed by BMW a little in order to have it calibrated (aka dealer trip)?

Thanks!

Hello,

Attached calibration steps compiled by aeroshurik hope can help you.
We were using 5' x 2 ' mirror placed 120cm in front of the car.

Sup Guys

I just ordered the finishing parts from the dealer and ebay.

got a 20€ ldm module from ebay, and everything else from the stealer.

I have some doubts now, maybe someone can solve them for me.

1- I have E91 Touring with Msport package and all that stuff, as I see the references for the trim mentioned in the PDF, those are for normal front bumper right?
for m front bumper I ordered those 2 refs for trim pieces
51117907076
51117907077

hopefully I ordered correctly.

2- How hard is it to add new fuses in E9X platform? I have an E46 that I retrofitted a lot of stuff, fuses there are a pain in the ass, but manageable, any short DIY of how to add new fuses around there? Couldnt find anything myself

3- Is it really necessary to update with winkfp the modules? Did it once before lots of years ago cant even remember how that works.

4- thanks to shannon1 for this awesome image that makes everything SO easy and clear for me!!!

Those numbers are correct if you have a pre-LCI M-Sport bumper. Parts are different for LCI.

You don't need to update the module with WinKFP unless you have an issue with your used modules, but in my experience they work fine out of the box without even changing VIN. Just ensure the coding is correct for your car (default code after adding $541 and removing $544).

Hello Guys, first of all, thanks for this awesome DIY. This community is really great. I am also currently doing this retrofit and until now everything worked out pretty good. It only took (as always) way longer than anticipated... I already spend two days and still have no power for the ACC and LDM Module yet.

However, next step is to connect the Sensor and the LDM Module to the correct plugs of the fuse-box (plug X11003 & X11008 if I am not mistaken). The thing is, I am struggling to find any documentation of where to find plug X11003. I was only able to source the following pic but this does not include all the plugs, especially not X11003. Does someone know where to find the correct plug for the ACC Sensor? (I have not disassembled the fuse box yet... maybe it is obvious as soon as it is unmounted; in the case, sorry for the question)

Hey guys, I'm back. just completed the retrofit! everything seems to work fine, sensor is calibrated, everything works as intended!

small few details

1- on M sport bumper, you still have to trim the bumper to be able to install the new grille + cover. I fucked up a little and trimmed a bit too much, nothing seriosly bad, no one will ever notice, except me.......

2- In my fusebox, fuse 21 was taken, and fuse 65 was a big 40amps one taken aswell. I thought I had the correct connectors to install the small fuses, but I couldnt find any, only had big connectors for the regular fuses, so I wired the LDM and the ACC, both to the fuse for the cigarette lighter (20amps) Its probably going to be temporary, since I dont like the idea of having 3 things running of the same place, but for now, it works and nothing blew up yet.

3- Routing the wires is a pain in the ass, I routed from the ACC, towards the ECU box, from there only the fuse wire, routed it inside ( removing the entire ECU box, or it would have been imposible.) the rest of the wires, routed them under the cowl, to the driver side, then behind the abs pump there is a grommet you can use you get the wires inside. lots of removing things just to route the wires, but in the end its worth it. Under the steering wheel I tried to route and solder everything neatly so its not a big mess, its still a mess, but nothing bad.

In the end everything worked out, calibrated the sensor first try ( first set all 3 screws to 43mm as ISTA says, then I only had to adjust one of the lower screws untill ISTA was happy)

sorry for the long post, here are some photos
