I know there are still lot of unknown things as software is not released yet, but I was worried that the new software should not start rattling problem which I never had before.
The rattle is no big deal by itself -- you can't hear it inside the car in normal driving. 29.2 will reduce strain on wastegate, but the point of the 335 is the gut-sucking low end torque that 29.2 takes away. Get v.32 and see what you've been missing.

If rattle develops, get hardware fix.

You can get rattling with pre-v29.2 as well as you can with the lag-fix version. I don't even know if it will come for sure with old wastegates or if it is only more likely with those.

It can develop or not. It was not there on your car before you had the software upgrade. Most times, it does not show up before ~15000 miles. If your car is prone to it and has already reached the point where it shows up, it would have been masked by the rattle-fix software now and would show up with the lag-fix software. If that is the case and really bothers you, you still have the option to have the wastegates replaced or to get the rattle-fix software back.

But it's not the lag-fix software's fault if rattling develops, since this just restores standard behaviour. The problem is the deficient hardware. In that case, had you never gotten a software upgrade in the first place, rattling would have developed with the initial software, too, you'd only have noticed it earlier.

As I have told several times here, I know for sure that v31.1.1 is much better than v30.0.2, since I had both versions on my car (which is a build 09/07 and had v27.x originally). However, it is not the full monty. I expect that in the January update/downgrade.

i basically have the same exact problem you have...
i am 9/07 build, v80 hardware and had v27.x BUT was updated with 29.2

....i will definitely keep my eye on what you do.

thanks from me and everyone else for your leadership and info in this thread !

From BMW Presentation slides:
Release of the new DME software which
restores the original turbocharger response
is planned for 01/09
ISTA/P2.32.1

Maybe the P2.32.1 is a clue? V32.1, maybe? We will see.

I got a call last night from my SA who's been great about trying to resolve the lag issue for me. He says it will be called v.32.1 due to be released Jan. '09. I will get it as soon as it is available and post my thoughts here.

I saw that "P2.32.1" info on the PDF file and thought it was awful coincidental that we were ar V31 now and there in the middle is the number 32. So...that makes sense. It's also funny that MONTHS ago, some on here (Maybe Meyer, I forget) were saying that they heard from their sources thing like "just wait...V32 has what you want" etc.

I have a question, and trust me it will relate to the lag problem.

The 335i has, 1 fuel pump, 1 water pump, 1 oil pump.?

2009 335I 6/AT here. I kinda hope my car does have lag, because that would mean It can possibly be faster in January

Anyway I just got my 335I on Sunday, and just yesterday a friend of mine asked me how fast it was. I actually told him I was expecting a more sudden whip-lash like burst of speed because of the turbos at low end, I told him that once it gets going tho, it's really fast. Keep in mine I told him this before I even read this thread. But today I tried it in manual mode and It didn't seem to lag as much. I dunno tho, could be the placebo effect because i think earlier today I had read a comment on how there is less lag in manual mode on a 6/AT.

This is all a non-issue if I/We get a piggy back system tho right?

Talking Fuel?

Does anyone have any opinion on fuel types running with the 'laggy' software?

My n54 powered car was an amazing drive whether I used ron95 or ron98+ (UK). The only difference I noticed before the car had a software update was a slightly smoother idle and better pick up of revs at low engine speeds with 98+ unleaded petrol.

Since the car has been 'updated' it exhibts all the 'lag' issues people are talking about - no pull under 3000rpm, hesitant throttle response etc. These crappy characterisics seem to only be apparent with 95ron fuel, I recently went back to 98+ and the difference is fantastic it's like driving the car on the old software!

Anyone else found this? I wonder why?

My car has a 01/08 buld date so I assume it has a v.80 ECU. I bought the car new in July...in August I was updated to v.30.2, then again to v.31.1. Current status = stock/v.80/v.31.1/laggy/loud exhuast

Well, more proof the current version is not a resolution, even though we knew this already:

Two fuel pumps... one in the tank, one on the engine (that's the HPFP that nearly everyone, including me, has had problems with).

Ok, BMW denies chaning anything for months....then they acknowledge the problem and say they have a fix, in a couple more months. During the that time, the cars with the first set of wastegates and turbos are safe due to 29.2, so it effectivley puts more time on thclock before those parts need to be replaced. As i understand it, those fail after a decent amount of miles, but the mile you drive under 29.2 wont really count because the software is protecting the parts. Then when you get the v32 put in, the clock on the wastegates and turbos starts ticking again. BUT NOW they will fail AFTER the warranty runs out since 29.2 bought BMW some time. Does anyone else see what I am thinking here? Could it be this is the final act in their stall to prevent a lot of mechanical work they would have to cover with warranty or should I be wearing one of those cool jackets with the long sleeves that buckle behind your back?

Personally I think that warranty coverage of the HPFP and the wastegate actuators should be extended to 100k miles.

I was given a loaner 335 Sedan today while my 09 335I Sedan was getting it's windows tinted. I was flooring it all over town and trying to see around what RPM i got that "back to the seat" fool boost feeling. On the loaner 335I I was getting that feeling around 3500-4000RPM. When I got my car back I noticed I got that "back to the seat" fool boost feeling around 2000-2500 RPM.

The loaner car also bogged a couple times from a dead stop. It was really weird, like the Turbo took a half second rest half way through the RPM's in 1st gear.

Just thought I'd share what I felt.

You can't check, only the dealer can tell you.
