Weird question about x-pipes and exhaust cutouts

So I have an E92 N55 335i. My stock midpipes have no secondary cats, just the stock x-pipe.

Now, I’ve been considering installing exhaust cutouts onto my car (I’m a really big fan of being able to switch modes). Normally, one would install 2 cutout valves on y-pipes welded in downstream of the x pipe. However, what if I were to weld on a flange to the bottom of the x-pipe itself, then bolt the cutout to that? The x-pipe isn’t providing any power (since everything comes from a single downpipe, it’s just about sound), so I wouldn’t lose anything when I open the valve. I know this is weird, but could it work? Would probably sound pretty different but I’m certainly willing to experiment.

I would imagine the flow would be horrible and you might actually lose power. Then the issue of ground clearance. I mean technically it could probably be done, but why.

Does the n55 335 have the variable volume exhaust like the n54?

I ask because my plan is to remove the stock "loud" muffler, and continue using my switch operated exhaust valve. Loud when I want and quiet when I want.

Yes, N54 and N55 have the same mufflers/flap.

In that case I'd give some thought to my plan. I should have the control portion done in the next few weeks. Spend the money on the straight pipe replacement, and you won't have to worry about it. Additionally no fumes in the cockpit.
