I spent some time this afternoon looking for a webcam around the Verrazano Narrows bridge in NY hoping to catch the DJ arriving to port tomorrow but the only Verrazano Narrows webcam I could find seemed to be out of order . However, I did stumble across a couple images of the Auto Marine Terminal that I though you guys might like to see.

I'm a Network Engineer, and while my current duties surround mostly WANs (Wide Area Networks - routers, switches, and other "backbone" components), my background includes everything from computer technician duties, LAN design/management, NMS (Network Monitoring Systems), and HTML design. So...I guess you could say I'm a computer "geek."

no_exit...great post! I tried looking for some solid tracking info, and like you...only found limited information, including the pics you submitted. NYC/NJ ports seem to be tight-lipped where real time information is concerned. I'm resigned to the fact that for Port NJ at least, we're going to have to depend solely on AISLive info for positional reports. I was hoping to find some port-specific arrival/departure information similar to what Halifax had, but no such luck.

I am a software engineer/technical architect that focuses mainly on J2EE (Java 2 Platform, Enterprise Edition) web based applications and EAI (Enterprise Application Integration) projects using the TIBCO toolset. I was fascinated with computers since a very early age. My goal was to develop video games but I never quite got there, somehow business application development got in the way.

I would consider myself computer "savvy" - friends and family just consider me a computer "geek".

Thanks. I wasn't too surprised to find out that the information was so limited after the events of 9/11 - was kinda expecting that. It would have been nice if they could have thrown us at least a small bone. Oh well, like you say, we still have AISLive when the DJ comes into range. Big day tomorrow

Sorry to jump in as I am not on the DJ but rather Tancred. Wondering if anyone tracking DJ has seen the Tancred lately?? I can't seem to access AIX for some reason but I have a high & clear view of the Port from my office - would like to see if I can catch my ship coming in....

Thanks in advance for any update...

All I know is the Tancred left Port Halifax about 4-6 hours after the DJ did... She should no doubt be heading to NJ...

Rest assured fellows I use the term computer "geek" with the utmost admiration and respect.. I am just a sales guy who has learned on his own to use the technology.. My laptop I carry in my truck day to day has a broadband aircard, allows me to do anything I could do in one of my stores.. Thats as close to a geek as I could get. Our IT folks are the sharpest people in the company thats for sure.. Then I come home and have to live with dialup on my office PC.. You guys have really made this whole tracking thing great.. Those of us who are less tech savvy really appreciate it..

First things first ... great job on all the updates/posts

Missed quite a bit in the last 2 evenings, sorry I've missed most of the party t'was my wedding anniversary.

By my guesstimate, the D J should already be at the NJ terminal, I estimated a 20:00 EST arrival (not accoutning for weather and traffic, as usual) =/- 2 hours. This is based on estimated distance from Halifax to NEAT NJ of about 670 miles (rough estimate) and the D J's preferred speed of about 20 mph totalling to an estimated 33.5 sailing hours. This is also base on estimated time of departure (thanks to the webcams ) of about 10:00 - 11:00 EST 02/25.

Its too bad there is a blackout on useful tracking information (for security reasons), so far in our voyage, it is the D J's excursion in Southampton that has given us the most detailed information on position and such.

Mr. Fletcher: count me in on the roll call / shipmates of the Don Juan picture thread ....although (judging by most shipmates' car description) we must as well call it the Sparkling Graphite Picture Thread Pt 2 ...

Also to continue with the current discussion, I work for a non-profit foreign organization (trade representative) here in D.C. ... very impressed with all of your technical backgrounds

To our shipmates disembarking here in NY/NJ, I must say that I have had fun with everyone of you on this thread/voyage. Do keep us posted on deliveries, look forward to seeing your pictures. Don't be a stranger... Cheers!

And to the others...we still have one more leg

Well, since my car is disembarking in Charleston I started doing some digging to find out some information on the port.

This page has some nice pictures of a WW craft (not sure which one) loading up the 1 millionth BMW. It gives a good perspective on how monstrous these ships are.

http://www.port-of-charleston.com/co...ort_photos.asp

Unfortunately I haven't been able to find any info on where the DJ will dock. From Google Earth it appears that the South end of the terminal handles the auto traffic, but I can't find anything specific in the web site to say exactly where.

One more oddity - the DJ is not listed on the Vessel Schedule - maybe it's actually docking somewhere else?

Maybe another intrepid web surfer can find out more than I did. How 'bout a web cam??

OK, I found out that a "RoRo" terminal is a Roll-on/Roll-off terminal, which means cars among other things. So, it looks like the Union Pier Terminal is the place. Here are two shots from another website:

And another from the ship's perspective:

Finally, I was only able to find one web cam that *might* show us some action. It's South of the pier on the other side of the inlet. It is facing the right direction though, so who knows. Here is the link:

James Island Yacht Club web cam

OK, enough bandwidth for tonight. Have a good week all!

I second that. We've got a great collection of shipmates, and this particular wait has been entertaining to say the least! I've read many of the previous "who's onboard" threads, and I think we may have created a model by which others might make their wait as enjoyable if only they follow the lead. Honestly, while others often explain how difficult the wait can be, and it was while my car was still in Germany being built and awaiting transport, the actual trip over has been more than tolerable because of everybody's involvement with this thread. I really felt like I wasn't in this alone, and it has helped immensely. Clap and kudos to everybody onboard the DJ!!!

I estimated the DJ to be just outside the harbor at 21:00 CST, and added 2 hours for it to navigate and dock...putting it in at 23:00 EST; however, I just checked, and I can see no sign of it or the Tancred. I also backtracked along the coast east of MA, and I neither did I see either there. So I'm wondering if they have been delayed, or otherwise just not showing up on AISLive. Guess tomorrow morming will provide an answer (hopefully).

I do believe that is most of us. I still don't see why IL, OH, and MN would be serviced by SC, but those of us onboard are. But what's an extra few days at this juncture!

Ok...off to bed. Late night at the girlfriend's house!

No offense even considered by your original "geek" comment. In fact, when describing myself to others fecetiously, I often refer to myself as a computer geek also, even though I don't fit the "standard" image of one. Besides, the true computer geek (nerdy) image is set aside for the software types....right no_exit??

Good show cinci! As for the DJ not showing up on the docket...my only guess is they didn't update her originally scheduled arrival time, and it drops via whatever protocol they have? The DJ was originally scheduled to arrive there today (ooooh....ouch! they would be unloading our cars today!), and the next date on the docket is Tuesday's. Geez....that doesn't even sound like a coherent thought now that I've put it down. Where was I going with that thought? My mind was thinking it was thinking, but in reality, it wasn't thinking about thinking, but about sleeping, and I must have lost it in between somewhere. Ok....I already said I was going to bed. Now where is it?

Good night all....(idea to self - "yeah right Fletch!....they're all ASLEEP...GO TO BED ALREADY!!!")

Good Morning Shipmates....

Continuing on shipmate Fletcher's fine work ... here is the 02/27 09:40 image pulled from AISlive

A lot of traffic in the NY/NJ ports, but you can see that the D J is nicely tucked in at the NEAT ...

Assuming the usual 2/3 hours lag (even more perhaps in NY due to security) we might've be just about right about the estimated docking time (between my estimated at 20:00 +/- 2 hours and shipmate Flethcher's of 23:00) ... based on the 03:00 EST AIS image.

I anticipate a quick turnaround, there are 830 shiny brand new Bimmers ready to get off .... Congratulations, once again to the shipmates getting off here ...

That leaves us with 1,574 Bimmers who'll be continuing the trip all the way down to Charleston ...

This might be luck, it might not even be the DJ, but I found a web cam on the Empire State Building that points right at the Statue of Liberty. On that track, what's behind the statue? Why the terminal of course. Do you think this is it?

Edit: added Google Earth image showing sightline of webcam

Just checked the web cam again and she's left port. The Wallenius Wilhelmsen site shows the same thing. Next stop Charleston!
