320d Low fuel pressure warning

Hello!

I'm looking for a bit of help in relation to a fuelling issue on my 2011 320d.

Under hard acceleration/full throttle I am getting an engine warning light. It carries code 4560 Pressure Sensor - Plausibility - Pressure too Low. The car goes into limp until it is turned off and on. Otherwise the car drives well. It also only occurs when engine is warm - full tank and low tank.

I have replaced the fuel filter, rail pressure sensor and rail pressure regulator but the problem has persisted.*

Are there any recommended checks before I start throwing money at injectors / pump (gulp)?

Thanks in advance

Phil

The parts you changed are what I would have suggested looking at.

What are you using to read fault codes? Would be worth investing in a decent scanner if you haven't already.

Hi Bishbosh. I've used both a snap on solus and INPA and got the same code. INPA has provided some further info on parameters at the time of the error which i can share. Im not 100% on what the expected pressure should be to assist on the diagnosis. I have not managed to get my DIS to behave yet.

I find Ista+ (Rheingold) a lot quicker and easier to set up than DIS.

The injection pressure should be 1800 bar. Is there an EKP (fuel pump) test module you can use in inpa to see the rail/injection pressure? There should be a test where you can activate the in tank pump, not sure which tests you can carry out on the hpfp in inpa but I would look there too.

ISTA+ looks good. Will see about setting it up. Thanks!

You're not using a tuning box connected to the rail pressure sensor are you? I've seen errors on two cars related to tuning boxes.

Got ista up and running with no obvious EKP issues however the test was pretty tame with no real engine loading. I luckly can borrow a module to trial so will let you know.

To add insult to injury I managed to brick the footwell module during diagnosis. One step forward, two back. Life lesson - put the car on charge during diagnostics!

So just an update on my ongoing headache...

Bricked footwell module / FRM has been flashed and is back up and running. Interestingly my headlamp adjuster now works for the first time!

I bought another EKPM and successfully programmed/coded it for my car. Unfortunately it didn't remedy the problem.

Next port of call is the tank pump. Ordered one today and will swop it out. Fingers crossed but not holding my breath.

Any other suggestions welcome on the topic!

Hi folks

So tank pump and module have both been replaced and no improvement on the fault condition under hard acceleration.

In summary the following have been replaced:
fuel filter, rail pressure sensor and rail pressure regulator (and the recent tank pump & module).

Any advice on the next steps?

Flow control valve on the pump?

Or get injectors / hp pump checked out?

Thanks in advance

Hi,

I'm new to this thread but I have an identical issue on my 320D (2011) so am wondering if you got to the bottom of the problem as I am pulling my hair out. I've changed fuel filter, both low pressure and high pressure pumps an fuel ECU and it is still doing it. Be good to see if yours is cured now as I am on the verge of getting rid of it.

Thanks

Ended up being a cracked injector. Eventually brought it to an injector specialist who diagnosed it pretty quickly. Replaced one and reconned the remaining 3. Cost about €1000

Wow - thanks for the reply, just spoken to my mechanic who can run live data from his delphi machine on the road to check for any spikes on injector data.
I'll let you know the outcome
Thanks again
