BMW 335i weird noises - with videos
Hi all,
I have a couple of weird noises that I am trying to diagnose but I am not sure what they can be. I would appreciate any help you can provide! Noise 1 - the electrical whine! I have put the video below, please have a good listen and let me know your thoughts. I think its either the LPFP or the drive shaft pinion bearing. Not sure but it is present on idle and whilst driving. I do give it some throttle in the video and you can hear the pitch change to a degree but ill let you be the judge! Noise 2 - Drivers side (RHD) farting/humming noise but constantly audible. Have no idea what this is but it sounds like air pressure release of some kind. Noise 3 - The hissing noise This noise sounds like it is coming from the alternator area/ auxiliary belts. Could it be vacuum line leak or a crack in and around the throttle body (intake). Not sure Really appreciate any insight! |

Stab at a guess, fuel pump? Not so familiar with the sounds up close of the N54/55. Could be the LPFP as you mentioned. Have never heard this on my 330i just for reference.

Yea it could be but I'm not sure. I haven't yet had a very long crank situation or car not turning on situation either so I'm unsure. |

Just an update:
Went to BMW and the following is being done: New LPFP Sensor replacement New Drive belt tensioner - noise 3 perhaps caused by this? New Boost Solenoid as per noise 2 Noise 1 may go now due to new sensor possibly. I guess I will wait and see. But that load buzzing noise from the boost solenoid is not normal apparently so for those experiencing it as many are - get it changed. This was covered by my BMW insured warranty! Wooo |

Did you get noise #1 fixed? It probably was a bad LPFP and not the sensor itself. If the sound is coming from the passenger rear seat, that is exactly where the LPFP is located. I have the same issue now and will do some tests this weekend to rule out LPFP or sensor. I have two LPFP units and one is on the way out or already gone...it makes the same noise and sometimes, it will go apeshit and sound like a tea kettle whistle.
