Steering Wheel Squeaks

2006 330i. The steering wheel starting squeaking whenever turning about 2 weeks ago and has not stopped. As tempted as I am to spray WD-40 in between the column and housing, I have no idea how many wires and connections are in there so I'm not going to do that.

Maybe a bad bearing? Has anyone had this problem?

Thanks,

Tim

I have the same problem when it gets cold. It's probably the rubber boot where the steering column goes through the firewall. More info and pics in these threads:

Don't use WD-40 to lube anything (to be fair, WD-40 is now a brand that makes actual lubricants, but the basic WD-40 is not a lubricant at all). Use a lubricant designed for rubber.
