Looking for a CIC satnav firmware update

Hi all. First post and a plea for help.

I have a 2010 320D Business with the CIC satnav & the 4x3 screeen. I would like proper postcode support. I have updated the maps (MOTION) to the 2015 version. Postcodes still don't work properly - a 6/7 digit postcode is accepted but points to the town centre.

Reading the thread at http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=955682 and the threads linked from there tells me sometimes updating the maps is enough and sometimes it needs a firmware update. It looks like I need the firmware. Both the local BMW dealer and an independent just tell me it can't be done.

So, can anyone recommend an expert who can sort out the firmware within sensible distance of Greater Manchester? TIA

Hi

I've a slightly older 320d with professional nav and have the same issue. I spoke to my local bmw dealer who advised the maps from 2011 onwards had 7 digit post code but you also require cic firmware from that year also. They have quoted 166 inc vat for them to do the upgrade and will need the car for an entire day. I'll let you know how I get on

You guys can also look for a BMW specialist with an Autologic. They are quite popular in the UK (since Autologic is based in the UK) and can handle the upgrade on the vehicle as well.

Thanks for those. I have spoken to a couple of Autologic equipped independents who either couldn't do the job or said they had struggled with it, hence my request here.

I have found an independent (Peter Van Der Veer) who understood exactly what I wanted. He is a mere 20 miles away but it looks like a 2 hour trip to drop it off and another 2 to get it in the morning. As things stand, I will be giving him the job as soon as I can fit it in.

Idrive firmware update complete

hi

i've had the idrive firmware update completed - at Barons BMW in farnborough.

They had the car for about 6 hours, charged 160 all in and the update is great, have full 7 digit postcode (my maps were already upgraded to 2015 versions) also am now able to update maps via USB instead of DVD (much quicker) have the little (I) in the zoom bar in maps view to remove the detail boxes on the top right.

The service menu lists have also been updated.

Overall the cic system is much more responsive with less lag, i think it has also solved a couple of music track issues i had with the hdd , it used to occasinally skip within a track losing a couple of seconds- never in the same track but completely random. Then a little later avery loud buzz and then complete reboot of cic with the BMW Logo. it never did it when using the sat nav with radio on only when the hdd was playing music.

160 well spent!

I used Peter earlier this year for a full software update along with new glow plugs.

He found a couple of issues missed by others including my MOT!

He also found some of the work I had asked for didn't need doing and was very honest about that.

I was very specific about my software update as my CIC is running V41 which I didn't want to lose. Peter understood my request and updated the whole car aside from CIC and Combox.

He's a great Guy and I'd highly recommend him.

See if he's finished building the 1 series M3 when you go!

So, I saw Peter and he updated the firmware, and now I have proper postcode lookup. Everything seems to be OK. The update didn't go entirely smoothly, but he knew what to do to sort it.

The biggest problem was missing the train on the way back to collect the car ...

Excellent! Sometimes the Autologic can be a little tricky when updating, but usually sorts itself out in the end.
