Changing the valve cover?

My garage is recommending changing out the value cover on a BMW 2010 E90 that I'm thinking of buying. The VC gaskets have been changed already in the past 12 months. Is this overkill preventative maintenance?

Are the recommending that based on the age of the car or is it leaking?

Whoever did it could’ve not torqued it correctly, could’ve cracked the cover, could’ve used a cheap gasket, or could’ve pinched the gasket.

If it’s not leaking I would leave it alone.

You'd have to ask them why they want to do it. Unless the PCV has failed which is integral to the cover or it is cracked, there's no reason to replace it. It's not cheap.
