I would take the V10 because the V8 is fun and sounds very good but since there are so many mustang 5.0s and camaro ss on the road, having a v10 is quite unique.

I have owned and driven both. I had a manual E60 M5 V10 The engine needed to be pushed very high in the RPM range to get the performance out of it. Which makes it sound truly glorious considering the special exhaust I had too. But the car itself was nose heavy and understeer is its middle name. It is a cruiser really. The engine should be put in an Ultima or something like that to deal with the block's sheer weight. It is BIG. I now own a MB GT-S (and a BMW 328xi wagon) and it has a V8 bi-turbo. Different beast all together and most importantly mid engined. It sounds like an "American V8". It has oodles of low end torque (max starts at 1600 RPM!) and lots of HP. It is a modern engine that produces power over a larger RPM band and it is lighter. It is a better way forward and engineers know it. It is fun to drive. We are well headed for lower cylinder count without giving up power and torque. Bring in hybrid drive as well; inevitable. And when battery technology gets to the point of removing range anxiety, that will take over all together. Wait for it. Whether we like it or not.

It's kind of a stupid thread but I will bite.
V8 FTW and this is why and why V8s are so damn common and used everywhwere: A V8 can be thought of as 4 sets of V2s. When set at 90 degrees, each cylinder balances out the other. If the cylinder timing has been calculated and set properly than then engine is balanced. Engines like the V10 are inherently unbalanced because it is an odd number of cylinders on each bank. A balanced engine is better. V10s usually have to have balance shafts so they are more complicated, physically longer, more expensive to build, share less components with other engines, etc. The V8 is going to fit in more places better and is just a better overall design. Again, why everyone uses a V8 all over the place and why the LS engine is so fucking damn popular. V10s push the weight more on the nose while v8s you can tuck in closer to the center of the car assume front engine vehicles.

A V4 with a supercharger on top and turbo charger on bottom! Plus apex arc 8s for the flywheel and continental gp5000 for the belts.

Forced induction is great for performance and all, but I feel like most companies have given up developing their engine technology in favor of "turning up the boost a bit more this model year".
Thanks emissions standards! Back on topic.. V10 for sound and smooth feel, SCv8 for performance. That being said, wish I could turn back the clock for an S14 in an e30. |

I get the chance to drive an S85 V10 about 4-5 times per year, they're pretty unique and fun but nowhere near the excitement level of the E92 M3 w/ ESS supercharger that I used to have. It's been years since I sold that car and I still daydream about buying another E92 M3 and supercharging it.
If you haven't experienced an S65 + boost, it's fucking excellent. The resulting sound with the right exhaust is great and the power is relentless, I was able to slightly pull on a friend's 458 Italia while my car had four people in it to give you an idea. Now, if we're considering superchargers - why not supercharge the V10 too? |

I'll take the engine which puts less weight on the nose and makes more torque and power. So out of these 2 choices, that would be an SC v8. Other options I'd take are either inline 6 or an inline 5 or 4. Inline 5s make a great sound and power (think rs3) and while the inline 4 sounds like a sacrilege, they can be great, too. Something either really revving high and vtec-y or something turbocharged like cla 45's engine
