Hi all

I am looking for rear tyre recomendations. 255/35/18 rears on a 3ltr

I have previously used:

Michelin PS4 - Currently on the car
Goodyear Eagle F1 asy 5
Vredestein ultrac vorti - possibly thinking about these the new plus range - not many reviews out there yet.. reasonably priced etc...

The last couple of sets have worn through the middle leaving atleast 2mm + on either sides, I would put this down to failed shockers control arms etc usually run around 35 36 psi.

After having everything changed it's that time again..open to suggestions, what do you use?

Ps I have had no issues with any of the above just curious to see what else is out there or others are running?

After watching some tyre track testing videos on YT I decided to save my money and bought Toyo Proxes Sports. Plenty good enough for me.

I’ve had pilot sport 4’s on mine for about 6 months. Happy enough with them so I’d say stick with them.
They’re as popular as they are for good reason.
But…….I doubt you’d go wrong with any of your short list so buy on price.

I`ve been round the houses a bit with tyres - Toyo Proxes I found very soft, grip was great but not so great I enjoyed them lasting 5k miles. Goodyear Eagles - great in the dry, shit in the wet.

Michi PS4S - has no competition in my book - best all rounder - wet/dry/long lasting.

Yes it's a great tyre for sure, cant fault them in any way tbh. I think it's hard to get hold of ps4 because they have discontinued them due to the 5 arriving.

Yes I agree with the toyos being too soft & they wear down way to fast, not tried them on the BM but in the past on lesser power cars they barely cope when making good progress.

Cant knock the ps4s but unfortunately you cant get them in this size only the 19s have them on another vehicle phenomenal tyre.

I do low miles so perfect for me, no point watching longer lasting tyres start to disintegrate.

Goodyear Eagle F1s all the way for me. I currently use these on my Merc C63 Estate as well, a cracking tyre without spending too much.

I've got the Goodyear eagles on the rear of mine but going to try the PS4 next.

I really like the new Conti DWS06+. The old DWS had a lot of sidewall wiggle but the new ones don't and still ride well, wear well, and are quiet. They look great too.

I also run PS4 - very happy.

Mine wear similarly to yours, run at similar pressure. Do more hooning and you'll wear the edges too

The issue I seem to have with the Goodyear is that every single car they've been on has had an issue with wobble at motorway speed. I would say this is down to balancing but it has been across 3 different cars all running the same tyre.

Additionally I haven't found the wear to be particularly good on the latest set of rears - down to about 3mm after 10k miles or so. I got 20k out of a set on my old 130i.

If you're leaving tread in the middle then you can up the pressure by a couple of PSI.

The general view seems to be the Michelin ps4, I currently have them on the car cant fault them at all in anyway.

Goodyear is also a good tyre they were on the car before I put the Michelin on but the only downside I felt with them was the back end kind of felt unstable or wallowy when making progress through bends, dont have that issue with the mps4.

In terms of wear I reckon they have have both lasted in the region of 8-10k.

The vredestein I've used in the past had hard side walls similar to the ps4 to keep you firm and flat when leaning on no difference in tyre noise compared with the other two, grip wise they're really good but i reckon the Michelin & Goodyear have a slight edge over them & the wear rate was much better than the Goodyear & Michelins, I'd say they did roughtly about 14k before replacements were required.

Guess I will have to see what I can get at the right price.

I've tried contis previously and have had others feel the same way about them, they just wear down so fast & dont grip as well as the Michelins. So I tend to keep away from contis for that reason. Good to hear your having a good experience with them.

If you go with the Michelins pay a little bit extra & get the PS4S, they have a stiffer sidewall than the PS4 & don't, well at least mine didn't wear out at the edges, unlike every other set of Michelin tyre I've had.

To be honnest I reckon the 4s on 19s have been better for wear, even though they are on a heavier car. The 3 series for some reason goes through tyres faster well this one does anyways but I reckon that could have been due to shockers and rear arms etc. I guess I will find out this time.

When I first bought the car 5 years ago I didnt have any unusual wear but within the last couple of years i think its had 3 sets of rears which have all worn from the centre fairly quickly I feel. They all wore down in the same way so I just put that down to the failing suspension. I have always ran the same pressures so would not like to think it's due to over inflation.

Mine have worn from the centre edges seem to have 2mm+ on them easily it did that on all the 3 sets I've used in tha last couple of years so I would say for me it was a suspension issue rather than just the tyres.
