Looking to mount my fire extinguisher. Not for racing just for general safety. Searching up it seems there was a bracket made for the front passenger seat for our cars but it's now discontinued. Also see others recommending the Z4 bracket but that is also discontinued and nothing for sale.

My plan right now is to mount it in my trunk on the left hand side on the plastic amp cover with nuts and bolts. My only worry since it's mounted to plastic it would most likely snap off in an accident with higher g's? At least though it wouldn't cause bodily harm since it's in the trunk. But it's also just a ~ 2.8lbs total so maybe it would hold?

That said if any other people has better ideas or has theirs to show . TIA

Neat and tidy place to mount the fire extinguisher. Seems like a good location if you need it to put out someone else's car fire. My bigger concern is that if you are involved in a major accident, and your/their car is on fire, you may find your trunk latch mechanism is disabled (either physically or electric system failure), and then waddyagonnado? I'd suggest simply keeping it behind passenger front seat, in the footwell - you could just reach around and grab it in an emergency.

My car is old enough that were it on fire on the side of the road...I might be tempted to just let it burn, its given me a lot of fun...deserves a fitting viking funeral someday, but any amount of fire damage would probably be astronomical to fix. But yeah, regardless, keeping a fire extinguisher is still pretty good SOP.

Yeah I thought about that to, like if it's a bad accident that causes a fire, could have issues reaching the trunk. But if I'm in an accident that bad, I do concur I probably don't care about saving the car anymore and probably already totalled. Wanted an extinguisher more to save the car if something goes bad, like prevent a small fire from taking the whole car away. Already we had recalls about things potentially catching on fire you never know. And had a friend who came back from a big road trip together once and his car just caught on fire. I concur his car wasn't the most like, well maintained one but having a extinguisher at that time it would've saved some.

Assuming you would get 30g's in an average accident here's some quick math for the force applied to your 2.8lb fire extinguisher.

F = Mass * Acc. , F = (.087 slugs ) * ( 30 * 32.2 Ft/s^2) = about 84 lb-ft of force (enough force to lift 84lbs one foot in the air). Your clip will probably not absorb that much force, however, it won't have to because your extinguisher will be braced against your car which will absorb a lot of that. The strap in your picture above looks tough enough to me to keep your extinguisher in place.

If you desire some kind of custom plastic clip, I may be able to help as I have a 3-D printer and I am certified to use 3-D modeling software. Good luck with your project!

I have a similar fire extinguisher in my car's trunk.

I looked at a bunch of universal mounting kits but they wanted some serious money for those mounts. In the end I just have it in my cleaning kit foldable crate that has made its permanent home in the trunk of my car.

There is one for sale now on Bmw CCA for sale web site. Look under parts. $90 . Years ago I brought back from overseas a factory extinguisher with the bracket. Attaches to the passenger seat. The holes in the bottom of the seat are already there. Super easy install once I unbolted seat and tilted it back. Lots of cool things that were available in Europe that we didn't get like trunk grocery bag holder and warning triangle. Holes are already there. Just bolt it up.

I just added a fire extinguisher to my e90 mounted under the passenger seat. Believe it or not it is almost completely hidden and easy to access.

I drilled one new hole in the bracket and enlarged another (ok well I made two and enlarged two but half werent used)

I used some m6 bolts that were tapered as pseudo self tapping and they threaded into existing holes in the sports seats with no drilling. Just make sure they are short bolts!

Amazon sells a mount that goes right in front of your seat. That's where I have mine. If I'm in a crash, or need a fire extinguisher ASAP...I don't want to mess around with trying to get out of the car, open the truck, and dig it out.

That is a good option and the best one for a larger extinguisher. I looked at those but wanted to tuck it under the seat more. My setup is still easy to reach but is nearly invisible.

I also looked into the chemical flare type extinguishers but the YouTube testing videos of it showed that they really didn't work well...
