I'm not too Happy

Have been storing my summer/winter tires at a local shop for the past 3-4 years. Went in today to put the summers on and 5 minutes after I leave I see the red warning light with the car on the lift image along with this message on my idrive:

"Brake pads are worn to the minimum thickness. Have the pads replaced by the nearest BMW center."

Brake pads were changed about a month ago so I'm guessing one or both of my brake sensors were messed with upon installing my tires.

Thoughts?

One would have to purposefully go and unplug your sensors, that would be just nasty. You can check them yourself and clean them at the same time. Driver front wheel and passenger rear. Are you sure your interval was reset when pads and sensors were changed last? Were both sensors replaced when pads were changed?

That's what I thought too. Yes both sensors were replaced when the pads were replaced about a month ago. The interval reset was done at that time too. I'm wondering if maybe they weren't properly installed to begin with.

Just check them out to make sure. You would have to jack one then another, but worth it before going further. Also, check the connectors, may they were not locked and came loose.

Thanks man. Won't have time to do this until the weekend though.

Was it BMW dealer that did the pad replacement? I think there is a sequence/process to reset the iDrive after new pads, otherwise you will get this error.

No it was an indy shop but he's an ex BMW tech. Pads were done over a month ago. I'm sure such an error would have appeared long ago? Just funny how it popped up 5 minutes after installing my summer tires.

The sensor may have just come loose if the cable got tugged somehow when the tires were changed

I have the exact same problem. I have yet to go fix it though. 135i vs sent me a link on some guy who fixed the issue so I'll try that when I get a chance. I replaced my pads/rotors/sensors about a month ago and reset it properly via iDrive.

How long after you replaced it did this happen?

Just noticed this morning on my idrive that it's the rear brakes only. Front brakes show as being OK.

Timely post for me as I plan to put my summers on this AM. Good luck.

the rear pads wear faster on the E90 cars.

I know - it's counter intuitive... It's all part of the auto keep the car flat,
anti-dive braking enhancements. It puts extra wear on the rear pads.

I think about 2 weeks. The rears went then the fronts went a day later.

Mine happened after it heavily rained. It might just be a simple solution. Still haven't looked at it lol.

I replaced the broken brake sensor with a new one and all is fine now.

Pretty obvious that it happened when they were swapping out my tires.

After hearing about your woes, I was very careful when pulling off my winters and putting on the summers. So I had no issues. It is easy to get the inside of the wheel banging on the brake mechanism. But frankly I don't even know where the sensor is. I guess I should have looked while I had the wheel off. I was too busy eyeballing my JRZ RS1s.

The sensor is attached to the center of the outside part of the caliper. It hooks onto your inner brake pad metal thing. The wire goes around the shocks and into the abyss of the plastic/foam? fender covers.
