Sunroof problems in the UK
Thank you guys. I realised that my sunroof switch was out of synch but had no idea that it could be reset so simply. BMW in the UK would have charged about $130 just to diagnose it! You are wonderful!!

Sunroof Probem
I just bought my first BMW in May (loving it, BTW) and I've had to do this twice already. I did it once in the beginning of June and once two days ago. Is that unusual or something I should be concerned about?
Thanks guys!

It just worked for me as well. Only difference is that mine didn't open and close on its own. I kept it there for the 15-20 seconds but nothing happened. I was confused but then hit the button and everything was fixed.

I found that it doesn't matter if engine is on or off. I did it while the car was warming up. It reinitialized and after a few seconds, the warning went away.

I did this procedure yesterday just for grins. Pretty cool how it does this. Like someone said, dealership would probably charge 1 hr labor and "parts" for this fix for the unwary.

Worked great!
I think what caused mine to go wonky was that I pushed the sunshade all the way back while the sunroof was still opening. It stopped opening and then closed. idk.. all good now though! Last edited by spencers; 08-02-2014 at 09:20 PM.. |

Looked this up in the Bentley manual and did this the other night when the front air spoiler wouldn't go up all the way when the roof went to the second opening.

This thread is funny, its funny to see how the info has evolved over the years, with people stating early on that you had to have the key in the ignition, the car turned off for half an hour, stand on one leg for 1 minute, throw salt over your left shoulder, hold the button for any interval between 10 and 25 seconds (none of these are correct), click your heels together three times and say "I hate Audi and Benz"!11!
Here are the full and complete, revised for 2015 instructions...Get in your car and... 1) Hold the sunroof button in until the recalibration is finished and the sunroof is closed properly. 2) There is no spoon.

Got M3 headliner installed today in my 335. After picking the car up once it was finished, I noticed the sunroof was sitting below the roof line (when closed) and it just didn't look right.
I tried the reset but now the rear edges sit a little over the roof line. In total I tried the recalibration 3 times and it helped, but its still not perfect (the way it used to sit before the swap). Could it be because the new parts are from an M3 and I need recoding? Weird, maybe il go to the dealer.

Change the fuses
Try changing fuses 25, 29 and 62. That worked for me.

So I was having problems with my sunroof for about a week now. The damned thing wasn't closing properly. It was like I don't know 5-6 mm off. Found this thread and was just outside to put it to the test. Hah, it worked! If this hasn't been pinned, someone please do so.

I had noticed that my sunroof was sticking up more and more when in the closed position, searched and found this thread. Then I did the reset, worked perfectly the first try.

Ok, I had this problem once. It was a sign of a failing electrical component. I took it to the dealer and they reset it and it worked fine. 2 days later all my cabin lighting and dash stopped, everything except iDrive and the locks ceases working. It was a $1000+ repair, luckily I was under warranty at the time.
