How well would an E90 330i hold up to a road course?

I am considering buying a 330i 6spd down the road... sure it's not the fastest straight line car but I hear it's a near perfectly balanced car which essentially means... it feels great, and handles great = a lot of fun at the track.

I was wondering how expensive it would be to track this car, now I don't mean drive like an A-hole and time attack it. I just mean, use the occassional day to just let-er rip... these cars are not cheap to repair, so how do they stack up? what would I probably break or wear out? is it a bad idea? I understand wearable parts would wear out quicker but what?

I bailed on the idea of having an E46 M3 because repairs and maint of that car scared me.

And I know that coilovers are not neccessary unless you are big into the tracks but I feel I'd care for em quite a bit. I can only imagine what they would do for this car in the handling dept...

have you driven a e46 330i with the performance package. I had an 04 and the handling and overall drive was perfect for what your looking for.

BMWs are meant to be taken to tracks and autocrosses, that's why BMW offers a number of driving schools and why there is such an active BMW car club. Obviously on a track you're wearing out your tires and brake pads and consuming fuel at a much higher rate than in normal driving but just use your common sense...

For example make sure the engine is warmed up (if you drive to the track that's that taken care of) and your tires are properly inflated and aligned and everything and you should be fine.
