SOS Call system failure

I've been getting this message every time I turn the ignition on and sometimes while driving, so today I thought I'd test it. Got in the car, put the key in and sure enough the bong went off and the message was displayed. I then pressed the SOS button and the next thing I know there's a voice asking what my emergency is which was rather embarrassing! So, obviously it's working fine. Any ideas what's going on?

Just to add that my car has recently been in for the recall work so I'm wondering if it's related. Another strange thing that's happening now since the recall work is that my headlight washers are now working which is odd seeing as that when I bought the car the previous owner had said he'd removed the fuse to prevent them working as they just make a mess, which was fine with me as my lights aren't xenons so the washers are not required. It's all very odd. Think I'll plug Carly in and see what codes I've got and also pay the dealer a visit (as they are literally across the road from me), and see what they've got to say about it.

Go to the passenger footwell, look up under the glovebox as the lower footwell cover, there will be a black plastic cover on the left hand side of it, if you pop it down look to see if the MOST ring connector is plugged in, quite possible it hasn't been plugged back in

Took back to bmw to see If the fault was a result of them disturbing something during the recall work. They offered to check it all over immediately and came back saying that all was well. They did scan it and said there were some fault codes but they cleared them and they didn't return suggesting it was just a sporadic fault. However, this afternoon I had to take a trip about an hour and a half away, and just before I got home the fault returned. The guy at the dealer did say that when the SOS battery back up runs low, this can throw up the fault.
I will plug my Carly in when I get the chance and report back with the codes, but does anyone know where the back up battery is for the SOS system?
With regards to the headlight washers working again, the guy at the dealer said that if the technician found a fuse missing while carrying out the recall work, then he probably just replaced it. So that explains that one.

I would have said the dealer had simply found the fuse missing so replaced it but you've found that out already. The SOS thing intrigues me. I occasionally go to feel brave and press the button to see if it still works and see what happens, i.e, do you get a message on idrive asking if I'm sure but then I get cold feet thinking it'll just call the emergency services straight off lol. Does it call them through a phone thats connected via bluetooth or what?

Not sure how it works! You press the button, your location then appears on idrive as a grid reference and then you just hear a voice asking what your emergency is!
As I have the fault, I certainly wasn't expecting it to work!

Right well I've checked what I think is that plug - behind a square plastic cover? And all looks good. I would've put a pic up but for some reason the attachment function isn't working!
I've also scanned it for codes using Carly and there are no codes relating to the communication side of things. I had a few relating to dsc and abs but they have cleared.
I've seen something about some sort of fibre optic connection in the boot that may be the problem, and that this can be bypassed? This was on YouTube and the car in question was a 2006 650. Would my car have the same thing? If so where can I find it as it's not where it is on the 650.
I've also read that the SOS function can be disabled but unfortunately not with Carly. Is this correct and if so, how can I disable it without affecting any of the Bluetooth functions?

I'd also like to know where the battery back up is as well if anyone knows.

If anyone could help with this issue it would be greatly appreciated as it's starting to annoy me now when I put the key in and get the bong every time!
Either fixing it or disabling it - I really don't care.

There are plenty of threads about sos failure on here, I have attached a link to one that seems to have a lot of info, starting at post No5. I only scanned through it but it may be of some use.
Loads of info about it on Google if you search.
Good luck getting it sorted.

Thanks for the info.
I've tried the common solution which is to unpair my phone, reboot idrive and then reconnect phone but the fault is still there.

If there is anyone on here in the Bridgwater area of Somerset that can code the SOS system out for me, there's a case of beer in it for you!

Ever figure it out? I have same problem in my 2011 328, but I don't have idrive, and my radio works fine. Just no BT, no accessory input, and no USB input.

I do have an A00554 error code (Alive phone error)

Nope never got to the bottom of it. Is bloody annoying cos as I've said everything works fine.
I was hoping someone on here or another forum I'm on might be able to code it out for me, but it seems there is no one in the Somerset area on either forum that can do it. Well that's the conclusion I've come to due to the lack of response. So I guess I'll just have to live with it until such a time that I decide to sell it.

In fact I'd even travel as far as Bristol, Exeter, Yeovil, Minehead if there is anyone out there who can code it out for me!

Think he mean a K+Can Cable then hook it up to you car and laptop and remotely sort it via a program I know msn you could do stuff like this but been years since I have done it.

As for your post about the SOS button I live in Bristol cleared my fault with DR Gini with a K+Can cable but my error came back, so i'll try it again over the weekend, E93 incase your wondering what car my error is on.

So as I've read here this back up battery thing could be the solution.
No good clearing codes if they keep coming back, so you have to fix the fault.
A by pass in my opinion is not a solution. These cars have loads of electrics as you know, so I would stay clear of that route.

So do you have the same symptoms as me - SOS call system failure but everything still works?
I might have a little look at the MOST system on mine to see if the TCU is faulty.
