Finally got an m3

Bought the nicest e36 for the money I could find. Will be mostly track car, occasionally driven to work when it's nice out. It's a god damned blast to drive

Congrats, mind if ask how much she set you back?

Btw you'll probably want to replace the harness bar with a half cage (CCA and NASA won't pass that for tech inspection). For auto-x that's fine though.

How fast does it feel compared to the 330i? I always thought these two cars would be pretty evenly matched when you compare stats.

Similar power to weight ratio... but a few bunfred less pounds, a lot more camber really makes it fun at the glen. The 330i is no doubt a great jack of all trades though.

Congrats. The old e36 are stubborn old mules and can go for decades of track day fun.

Yours was a 'luxury edition' with the faux wood trim inside. The 8-way power seats BMW installed weighed about 90# each. Comfy but good riddance for anything fun. The two-bar front mouth insert is irreplaceable.

I got some screaming good deals on new fender liners and radiator belly pans from Taiwan on rock auto recently. Search by part number, they weren't listed under make/model.

I could go on writing a book with recommendations, but it's nothing that hasn't been written 1,000 times before.

Enjoy

the e36 if properly setup should be mch better at handling. It is a lot lighter than the e90. On the other hand, the e90 has a much better suspension design and you can run much more tire and power.

Not only better suspension design. The chassis is stiffer too. Weight is about the same. E36 m3 is about 100lbs lighter. The e9x will out handle the e36.

Yep, e36 without Xbrace installed is like a snake up front, you can really feel the flex...
Xbrace would be my first mod... get rid off those heavy and wide seats No. 2 :-)

Super subjective and difficult to answer. Stock for stock M3/332i probably laps faster e90 could be a little more in a straight line. Euro M3 is definitely much quicker in both scenarios.

I'll probably get shit for this but the e36 would be more 'fun' because it's just an e36 so you don't have to feel bad if you put it in a wall

I'm sorry; that was kinda mean.

I grew up on e30 forums so that attitude was par for the course
