Are you talking about over time the tints get vertical scratches in them? I just turned in my 2008 and it had the scratches that developed over time.

For the new BMW I just received this in the mail:

http://www.tintprotector.com/

It is not an easy job to install, but I will give it a try this weekend.

My E90 330i never had any screeching or scratches over the 4yrs I had it. Nor my older vehicles prior to the BMW. Do you guys mean that these screeching become common nowadays? That's ridiculous.....

Just got my tints done at Accutint Seattle. My rear window have a surrounding fat white lines on my rear window, looks like they fail to tint over those slight dot matrix. Will get pics later. I might have to take it back. Some scratches here and there from the inside.

BTW anyone knows what I can use to repair fabric? They slash my B-Pillar with a blade and didn't tell me about it. It's not torn but on the verge and I don't think they will admit it, so I am SOL but I'll still try to talk to them and see if they will fix that. I see some slight cut marks around the C-pillars but not obvious. I need to check my seats.

Everyone got this on their rear window?

Tint Questions :-) Tint Answers ;-)

The surrounding area of the rear window on European cars, the quarter windows on the doors, and the windshield have what is called the 'dot matrix'.

Why does it look like there is no film over that area?

There is film over that area. The film that we install is FormulaOne, made by Llumar. FormulaOne is the highest quality film on the market (only film with a fully transferable lifetime warranty against any manufacture defects). It is designed to be installed by experienced installers. The downside to this is that they use thinner adhesive and at the time of install, the film has a hard time bonding in between the chemically etched dots on the edge of the glass. We encourage customers to either come in after the tint is cured and we can press those down, or you can gently press the edges down with your thumb or index finger on a warm day - this remedies the problem.

What do I get for $150?

You get tint that will start fading within 24 months, or it will bubble or peel after the first summer of the tint on the car. There is no compromise for quality. Take a look at the edges of the window from that $150 tint job and notice the GAP at the top of the glass. Then, look closely and inspect the glass for debris in the tint... In a short time, that $150 job will cost you 2-3 times that as you will want to have that crap removed and put better quality film on. Why would you spend $30-60,000 on a car and then compromise on tint over $150? That is just dumb. We remove tint on cars twice a week from those $150 shops. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure they do a decent job and treat you nice. What I'm also sure of is that the quality of the product and their installation does not compare.

I can see some legitimate complaints about film and installations. Unfortunately, as we are all human, mistakes occur. We do our best to resolve these issues as they arise, especially when they are brought to our attention directly, not after hearing about someone trash-talking on a blog. You should call us and talk to professionals about any issues you may have, as we are happy to remedy any of your concerns :-)

How are there scratch and cut marks on my b-pillar?

Good question. As I mentioned in an earlier thread, we never do any cutting of any tint inside the car. All of the cutting and all of the application of the film happens outside the car, with the exception of the rear window. The rear window is cut and shaped outside the car, then the installer climbs into the back seat to install the film. We NEVER cut any film inside the car, and never use any knives in the car when we are tinting.

We are happy for all of the customers that we get. As members of this blog already know, you can usually get a break on price if you just ask. We are also a business, with a goal to stay in business. That means that we are going to charge legitimate prices for our services. We know that we are among the highest price. We strive to maintain quality of our work that supports that. Occasionally, mistakes happen and we do our best to make them right. We are not going to accept responsibility for everything that you find wrong with your car after your windows were tinted. Accutint has been in business since 1999. We have dealt with every type of customer and all sorts of complaints in that time. Our goal is to continually improve our service and this happens when we address the legitimate complaints. We will continue this.

Thanks for taking time to read :-)

Accutint, no one is trash talking your shop. You guys indeed make some slight damages but expensive ones on my car. Matter of fact I had a $150 tints on my E90 and they are 3M color stable, held up for 4 yrs until I sold the car, plus there are no ugly "obvious" white lines around the rear window.

You promised to give me a call but didn't. I didn't want to call you up earlier so I can give you enough time to find a solution. Tinting since 1999 means nothing if it's not the same person that does all your tinting since 1999.
