mix 'n match used tires on xDrive

Hey guys, looking to buy a used set. Never bought used before, so I've always had new wheels and tires.

I'm looking at a set that is 18x9.5 +22 & 18.10.5 +20
The tires that is included is Nitto Invo 265/35/18 with 8/32 tread. (not bad at all).
I need to find a set of front tires, but I'm looking to buy a pair that will be a little used because of my xDrive. How much tread can be worn, what brands can I use, etc, etc.
I need to make sure it's compatible and no issues.

Thanks everyone.

I am in the same boat. I have 60% front tires and am looking to buy brand new rear tires with my xdrive. Wondering if this was okay as well? does that little bit of height difference make a difference? im finding it hard to find used 265/30/19 for the rears

The tread should be roughly the same. If you are looking to handle it quickly, you should get a pair of new tires from Tirerack and have them shaved down to the same tread depth.

You're saying I could buy new and it'd be fine?
Also, does it have to be the same tire?

You don't have anything to worry about regarding xdrive. It's not going to freak out if your rear tires are 50% worn and your fronts are brand new. Don't worry about it.

Good new. May I ask why? Tire Rack suggests shaving it down a little.

Now what about brands of tires between front and rear. Like conti DW front and something rear.

I'm no tire expert, but there are plenty of xdrive vehicles out there where the fronts wear much faster than the rears. It doesn't affect the xdrive. I just replaced all 4 of mine, and the rears were at about 5/32 while the fronts were bald.

My personal stance is that as long as you are running the correct sizes, brands and tread patterns can differ. Most people who go that route try to keep the same pairs on the same axle.

You can have Tirerack shave down a pair of new tires to the same tread depth as the older ones. I always recommend sticking with the same brand/model tire to keep the handling characteristics predictable front to rear though.

Instead of paying to shave down a new pair of tires, sell the tires that come with those rims and buy a matching set of 4 NEW tires. Sometimes trying to cobble up a set of used mix & match tires isn't worth the trouble/headaches given how little you end up "saving" at the end of the day....this is one of those instances.

good news. i hated to have to buy all 4 tires when the fronts are still good. I thought as much the xdrive system cannot be that specific.

perfect. thanks for the help guys!
