My 2011 E92 build so far

Hi guys. Been lurking for quite some time now, but I think this a good time to become active. I drive a 335i like the rest of you fellas and I love the beast. I want to spoil the beast with goodies such as a nice, wide 4" catless downpipe from AR Design. Or maybe a sexy, black anodized 5" Activewerkes intercooler? Anyway, here is my mods list:

Car Modifications:

JB4 w iphone app
MHD w iphone app
Active Autoworks 5" black anodized intercooler
AR Design 4" catless downpipes
ER Chargepipe
Injen Cold Air Intake/Stock?
PE Modded Exhaust
Vibrant 1792 Resonators
Solid engine/tranny bushings/mounts
UUC EVO3 SSK
UUC DSSR
ZHP Weighted Anatomic Shift knob
Ultimate Clutch Pedal

Coming soon: TRW M3 Control Arms, Coilovers (dunno which), wheels & brakes

I am currently stock except for the charge pipe (plastic cracked on me). I am waiting for some shipments to arrive, and then I'll head over to my technician to have install the goodies.

I spent a good chunk of my day in an industrial city today. Metal works... Here are a few pics from my PE exhaust mod that I did today.

The overall process went smoothly. We decided to cut both sides of the muffler because it allowed us to use an angle grinder for the whole project. I filled half of the goose feathers into the left muffler before sealing them back up. Once Amazon delivers my resonators, I will go to a muffler shop to have them weld the resonators and mufflers onto my exhaust.

A little more about my car. At 50k miles the belt tensioner became wobbly and the belt came loose and wrapped around the engine block nipped and cracked my engine block. Lol. I took my car to my tech and he said the dealer fucked up the threads on the bolt when fixing a fault tensioner. Same dealer forgot to screw my oil cap btw, fun smoke sesh. Anyway, I took my car to a different dealer and explained my situation. They covered the engine under warranty. God bless them. So here's a question for the veterans and those who have reached this far: Did the new engine come with new gaskets? I read about the OFHG conspiracy and all...

Thanks!

I was worried about DIYing my OFHG after reading all that stuff. Still freaked me out while I was doing it but I took every precaution. I first pulled the fuel pump power and then ran the car till it died out ( youll see why later). I drained the oil bc i was changing it.

I took the oil cooler and OFH off the block and cleaned them very well with brake cleaner. Cleaned the mounting surface with blue shop towel and brake cleaner ONLY. Put everything back together, filled it up with oil. Now, I primed the oil 3 or 4 times by turning the car over. (The fuel pump is still unplugged at this time) Once I felt that oil was circulated well enough, I plugged fuel pump power back and started the car. Left it idle until it was well over 160F.

Everythings been fine since I did the job

I'm glad it worked out for you. If I could afford the time to DIY it I would definitely have asked for your help. I'm going to have my shop take a look at it when they instal my parts next week.

Yikes. I just picked up a 2011 335xi and was contemplating doing the work for OFHG myself.. but I believe you talked me out of it. I’ll just leave it to the pros for the sake of motor health. (I can be a lil clumsy at times lol)

Update

I had my PE mod welded back to my exhaust system. I'm waiting to see how loud it gets when I get my DPs installed next week. One thing I have noticed so far is the difference in the driving experience. I have read so much about back pressure and how it doesn't apply to turbo cars, but my verdict is that it does make a difference. My car just feels smoother and faster now that the mufflers are back on. It's not a weight thing either because I had the mufflers in my trunk before installing them. I do not recommend cutting off your mufflers. Bite the bullet and get some performance mufflers if it can be helped.

Friday 13th UPDATE

Hey gents I've got a quick update for ya.

I was getting some codes at 89k mi

Active code:

2C01 - High fuel pressure, plausibility: pressure too low

Shadow code:

2BDE - Fuel high pressure during fuel injection release: Pressure too low.

On top of the codes, I was having long cranks most of the time.

I went ahead and replaced the HPFP and put in a new boost solenoid at the same time cuz why not. Unfortunately, BMW California Emissions warranty only covers the HPFP up to 7 years/70k mikes. The new updated hpfp costed me $900. No mode codes or long cranks though!

At the same time, my oil temp wasn't reading the temp so I looked at that as well. Turns out some rats had chewed away at the wires so I went ahead and connected a 6 in gap with some new wire.

All in all, success. I'm having some timing corrections on cylinder 3: -1.2
I don't think it's too terrible considering I'm on shitty California 91 oct running stage 2 OTS.

I had bought some vacuum lines as recommended on this forum, but my lines are molded so I've got new lines that I'll give away to whoever needs it. Just PM me and pay for shipping if you're not located in LA.

Gave her a bath after all the work now I'm thinking about taking her to Angeles Crest for a quick run.

Thanks for reading.
Happy Friday the 13th!

I have same mods but running E30. Try mixing a couple gallons of E85 and see if that help the corrections. Otherwise check spark plug or coils.

Thanks for the feedback. Would you recommend filling 4 gal of e85? I'm on ACN 91 octane.

Log from FBO MHD 2+ e30 OTS map.

Please take a look and add feedback.

I ran 4 gallons of 76 e85 on top of 91 ACN Shell.

I believe I was DTC not DSC.

I recently replaced my early 2011 HPFP and boost solenoid. 89xxx miles, but about 35k with new engine.

Power and smoothness are awesome. I don't know what took me so long. Best part is there's an e85 station next to my regular spot.

I use about 4-5 gallons for my conservative custom Twisted Tuning E30 map.

Looks like your having a lot of timing corrections in that log.

I saw those. Maybe the DME needs a second to adapt. I'll log again once I'm at a quarter tank.

Match 2023 Car update

Greetings fellow enthusiasts,

It has definitely been a while. Parts have been swapped and I'm here to make an update and give feedback if warranted. Here we go.

Car Modifications:

MHD new ver. Stage 1 w/a splash of e85

Active Autoworks 5” FMIC - {want a 7"}
AR Design 4” catless DPs
 - {currently stock DPs, ISO catted DPs}
ER Chargepipe
PE Modded Exhaust
k&N air filter
AutoSolutions SSK - {such an underrated mod}
85A Poly Trans bushings
MFactory SMFW {vroom faster, a bit noisy}
Southbend Stage 3 Daily Clutch - {same stock feel, grabby AF}
Bilstein B14 PSS Coilovers - {I know what I signed up for}
M3 front control arms - see below
Dinan fixed camber plates - {pulling bigger G's like a G}

Repairs:
Replaced Radiator Assembly
Coolant upper hose
Engine (New, warranty claim)
Pulleys, Belts, Tensioners
Water pump/Thermostat
Blower Motor Wiring (recall)
Takata Driver Air Bag Module (recall)
Boost Solenoid
HPFP
Bosch Coils/Delphi Plugs
Power steering reservoir replacement/flush

Need to do: I believe the sunroof drain is clogged because the rains in socal have gotten into my passenger side. It's coming in from where the hood release lever would be on the right side, but passenger. Sometimes it comes from the driver's side as well. Anyone have this issue?
