I went under the car today to check it out, and the amount of wiggle in the actuator arms is horrible. It would be be ridiculous if BMW expected customers to have their cars rattle on start up and occasionally returning to idle when you spend nearly 50k on a car.

my SA called me back saying they are replacing my wastegates, so im not sure which is which, and today i received a pm from a tech there saying one of the best mastertech at the dealership is working on my car.
Not arguing, but the wastegates are integral to the turbo. My SA said wastegates initially, but meant wastegate actuators. I would ask to see it on the rack, when they have the actuators off, or ask them to check for play in the wastegate arm.

SA called today. He told me the car is back together, and running great... however there is a small coolant leak. Will fix that on Monday. Must have pinched a seal or something.
Side note... the coating on the steering wheel is coming off on the left side. I asked them to look at that today, when he called. I looked scratched, not bubbled, but I figured since they have had my car for over a week.... it was the least they could do... we'll see.

I only noticed my noise when i revved the car, or decelerated. Start the car, rev it to about 3500-4000 rpm, and let it come back down to idle. You will hear the noise when the engine is coming back to idle. Sounds like a rattle in a can.
I could not hear it while in the car with the widows up... open the door and stick you head out, or have someone rev it for you. It is very noticeable.

I think you will eventually run into an issue, if you have the same problem as I do. I think eventually the wastegate will start to malfunction, as the shaft or bushing wears.
If it were me, I would run it until it becomes an issue.

OP, that is the exact problem I had with both my turbos a while back. Just curious what's your build month?

Picked up the car this morning. Sounds and runs perfect. No noises, and they replaced the steering wheel trim, no questions asked. What outstanding service and an overall great experience.
I attached the invoice, to show what was replaced. Also, look at page 2, in the description at the top. States wastegate bushing wear as the issue.
I hope this helps some of you, when dealing with your service departments.

Wategates are integral to the turbine housing. You "could" simply change the turbine housing and there would be no need to change the entire turbo. It might be a case of where the turbine housing is not available by itself.

I think Mr.5 has video on one of his threads. Can't remember... search for it.
IIRC, his noise was more noticeable at idle than mine. Mine was most noticeable coming off of the throttle.
