Will the 135/335 get a form of the M-DCT tranny anytime soon?

probably not. If it happens it would be the next Gen. But i doubt it. Then it would be getting a little too close to the M3 and the last thing that BMW wants is the 335 diminishing the M3s sales even more than it already has. Thats just my $0.02 though

DCT is available in Europe since September 2008, but only on the 335i. No other 3 series and no 1 series has this transmission, which is quite strange as it is remarkable good! I really love it and would take it instead of the steptronic every day.
However it is said the in the new 3 series maybe a better automatic will take over... (new 8 gear one) |

^ I'd imagine that the 8 speed would be the next logical tranny for the 3 series as it is significantly cheaper to produce than the DCT. Plus, reserving the DCT for M models makes them seem "special."
Now that I'm thinking about it, if part count has anything to do with cost and reliability, the 8 speed will be cheaper to produce than the current 6 speed made by ZF. Let's see what the 8 speed has in its corner: -cost (cheaper than the DCT) -reliability (fewer parts, torque converter makes life easy on the drivetrain) -fuel economy (one more gear plus integrated hydraulic start/stop function) Yep, 8 speed ZF for the 3.

I had heard that the DCT was seriously considered for March 2010 release (USA -- already in Euro) in E92. Not sure where balance is in regard to new step. If that is ready for 9/2010 then I doubt DCT release for just half year.

To be honest, I believe BMW is quiting the DCT, at least that was something I read on the web.
Not sure why, but I believe for example that the M5 / m3 will go back to a form of SMG kind of style.. Maybe I'm just wrong, but it somehow triggered me when I read your question... Maybe somebody else that can confirm or reject this...
