pre-29.2 to 34.1 (short) review

Quick briefing: I have roughly 30k miles on my car... I've never been to the dealer so I've been pre-29.2 since day one. Long story short: a body shop screwed up and created a leak. Water would drip down onto the OEM amp... it was destroyed and the car had to be sent to BMW to get the amp replaced. They updated me to the latest software: 34.1

I just picked my car up and drove around for about 10 minutes. Very limited driving but so far everything feels perfectly fine. There is definitely no lag at all (although I've always had lag-fix turned on even when i was pre-29.2)... the only real difference which may or may not be completely mental is that ripping through lower gears feels a bit more smooth.

In summary: definitely don't worry if you have to get updated. 34.1 is perfectly fine

update: so I went out driving with the computer hooked up so I could turn lag-fix on and off to compare. In a nutshell there really wasn't any discernible difference in terms of "lag". With lag-fix turned on it felt like there was slightly better throttle response, but that just might have been in my mind. I think 34.1 is good to go for those who don't have a lag-fix option.

After more driving I'll update the thread.. But i don't think I'll have much else to say, everything feels good!

JPSimon...did you take off all your mods before you brought it in or you went in there like a champ with everything?

I did a precautionary code-clear for shits and giggles with the procede because it's so easy. But that's it: i didn't remove any mods

Who knows what they jotted down on my "file", but the only time i've ever been to the dealer was when my SA called to tell me the car arrived from the motherland. I haven't been in contact with them for roughly 2 years now.

This visit wasn't warranty related... the shop that screwed up was paying for the replacement amp.

well i don't know why i would need to remove any mods. this wasn't a warranty issue. The shop was paying for everything

Looks like we have to strip you of your pre-29.2 badge of honor... Seems as my fellow pre 29.2er's are becoming more and more extinct, will I be the last one standing?

I was worried, but after driving around with 34.1 there really is nothing to worry about.

Im not sure how this addresses the issue of lag on 29.2+ when you are running the lag-fix w/ the Procede. Have you tried turning it off?

All I'm saying is that if you have a procede, running 34.1 is perfectly fine.

no I did not turn off lag-fix since I only drove 10 minutes to get home, haven't been in the car since. I'll go turn it off now and drive around to see what's up.

so it is "smoother" like I had said?

1 of the reason i said that was -- i pulled to stop sign and forgot to shift into 1st -- i had to dart out into traffic (its on main road where everybody is doing 50mph+) and when i went to shift into 2nd i noticed i was already there --
no bog off the line or anything .. so the torque snaps in pretty quick...

i want to go to 34.x (since they added some more features for diagnosising the HDP failures) .. but like i said 32.1 is running pretty strong for now ..

Good to know, especially given the quarter MILLION views in the 29.2 lag thread here!!

I am still pre 29.2 - Same situation as you, never been back to the dealership, but at least I don't have to worry if I have to bring the car in now!!
