DDE switched with another 335D

Can anyone tell me if you can switch DDEs with another 335? I have a tuned one with 180k miles and found another with very low miles. If you cannot just switch DDEs what else is required? I've heard other modules communicate with the DDE, it would be nice to save the thousand bucks. Thanks

You have to code a new DDE to the VIN of the vehicle. There are a lot of people that can clone a DDE.

On the topic of cloning, I know AArodriguez did it fairly cheaply. Under $100 IIRC, but that was about 2 years ago. Not sure of current pricing.

Thanks Guys, I guess I was saying is it possible to avoid all that by just switching a few other things along with the DDE. For example.... the BCM and the Key assembly?

Its a shame to sell my old car with a $1300 DDE then tune another one for $1300.

Sounds like you just want to swap the two DDE's around so that you get to keep your tune on the new car, correct? I suspect youd have to transfer a host of modules between the cars to get it all working properly without any software adaptations. Seems like a lot of work.

When I sent my DDE to get a tune, they cloned it before flashing the new software onto it. If your tuner did the same, I'd inquire whether they can help you transfer the tune to the new DDE. IF they can then you could potentially send the DDE from the new car to the tuner and have them flash it from the back up and stick it into your old car. Then have the current tune adapted to fit the new car. Still seems a little messy, but I think the easiest route would be to just contact your tuner and see if they can help you out with transferring the tune to the new car.

Just explain your situation to you current tuner, directly via phone if possible. Most will likely work with you to retain your business. If not there are cheaper alternatives out there.

If you paid for it, I’m sure they will be glad to move to the other DDE. They might require sending old one to them to wipe it and put normal latest BMW flash on it. This would guarantee to them you’re not running both DDEs with their tune.
