Front Suspension Gaiters

I think this might be a really dumb question but I'll ask anyway. Should the gaiters on the front struts be connected at both top and bottom of the strut?

I had my car raised at the front earlier today and with it lifted there is a big gap. When the car sits on 4 road wheels they look fine.

Because my older cars would fix the gaiters top and bottom I assume these should be but a couldn't see how they would connect up or have come loose (I cannot believe 2 zip ties both broke at the same time if that is the normal approach).

I don't normally work on this car so apologies for dumb question but would like to know for sure before I do anything

By gaiters do you mean the dust boots? and in that case no, only in the top
