What's that in english ?
You said 0w30 Castrol Edge. That's what this is! And it is LL04 certified - which is apparently BMW turbo diesel standard.

Quite why I'd take Carlos' advice on what to stick in any hole is beyond me

Glad you are talking to squeeze and not me.
By the way, it seems you are wrong about the oil - manual states LL04 standard, or as an "alternative" LL01. Bog standard Edge 0w30 is LL01, whereas Edge Turbo Diesel is LL04.

OMG...on the way home I discovered kick down. Please don't laugh that I haven't found it so far in 1700+ miles. I put my foot down beyond what I thought was the limit and felt the switch go, my god the car nearly took off. I thought it was quick before!!!!!

matey the manual may say that? i hve never seen the manual

rung three dealers and said its ok

Kickdown i only use if i really need it, sometimes it gets in the way and you lose about a second that you needed to overtake because it kicked down

otherwise when the timings right the kickdown function is fantastic:rocks:

i usually use the paddles if im going to do alot of overtaking

Carlos,

Are you saying you trust some dumbass stealer instead of all the BMW R&D effort to develop the manual.

The manual is always correct - only TSBs tend to overide the manual.

The Germans definately over engineer so i'm sure that there will be some tolerance in switching to different type of oil and I know from experience that the documentation is always the right answer not some bloke who happens to be at the service desk in the stealers.

THey were probably saying LL01 is FINE but doubt they were saying it is what you should put in. Or they were just wrong. I'm going by the manual - as ShereKhan says it probably doesn't matter with engineering tolerances etc.

Put in about half of 1ltr and going to check again today after a bit of a run.

Suggest that you get some 1987 beaujolais nouveau from your local Vintner and have a taste.

Then you will understand.

Warning came up on idrive this morning saying, Oil low please fill with 1 litre of oil etc. Checked about an hour later on the way to buy some and the oil status showed that it was full!!!!

Phoned up the dealer and they said bring it straight in it could be an oil pressure valve problem.

Took it in, 10 mins and a cup of tea later they said it was about 1/4 full

They filled it up and said everything was fine.
Now I'm very confused, do you trust the oil status? Might be worth double checking before putting more oil in!

glad i have a dipshit
