LCI headlight DRL ring removal?

or is it a "RIM" ?

I've got the outside ring/ halo/ angel eye driver side headlamp on my car that not working whilst the Inside one is. No warning on dash and the bulb is new. This is on an LCI car and thus xenon equiped. The BMW dude looked at it and said it could be the fibre optic thats broken. Given the car has had a shunt at the front before and that I've read that the bulb can be misaligned the the 2 rings (1 bulb for 2 rings rings) it would make sense.

Question: how much of a pain in the butt is this going to be?

1. Acess via whell arch trap (unlikely)
2. Wheel and whell arch off?
3. Bumper off to remove the headlight to get Inside it?

Any help much appreciated. (its king of driving me mad, I've tested for short circuit faults on the module with a diagnostic tool and nada...)

they're one peice when i took my headlight apart (they are permanently sealed, its not a pleasant job)
although i didn't notice my rings were cracked at all. so i'm going to double check the bulb i think.... have you checked that yet? on the screw off cap at the rear of the headlight? a mirror will help

I've tried but to no avail. Too many parts on the way (its on the left hand side). Good idea on the mirror though, I'll give it a try. Otherwise I'll wait for a quiet weekend where I've got somewhere to work to take everything off...

It would make sense that something is not properly aligned as the inside ring is working (where the bulb goes) but not the outside one. The bumper was recently replaced after a bollard mishap... As to what is misaligned and how to check/ correct is beyond me tbh...

LCI is not synonymous with xenons, I had a 2010 LCI fitted with halogen lights.

As far as I recall the special bulbs (read expensive) for the halo rings are held in place with small screws so it's unlikely that they are misaligned.

Its a €16.00 bulb over here. In fact its not just a bulb but rather a mini assembly. Xenons were standard with 330i/d 's I think.

Will let you know how it goes when I get around to doing it!
