30FF Troubleshooting

Hey guys, this one is driving me crazy and could use some help.

2011 335is (N54), Recent: MHD Stage 2+, ARM FMIC, ARM DP, VRSF CP

Great power for probably 1000 miles before an big "pop" from under the hood on track (HPDE Road Course) under full throttle. After pitting, found the CP silicone joint blown off the lower OEM CP coming from the intercooler. Replaced and tightened. Since then, I consistently get 30FF on most WOT pulls.

Pressure tested intake system to about 10psi with air, only leaks coming from FMIC connections (both sides). Gaskets replaced with new OEM, FMIC input still leaking a little even though it's fully seated, output is now sealed. Still getting 30FF even back at stage zero.

I've checked most of the vacuum system and it doesn't seem to be leaking. I still need to check the actuators themselves.

Stage 2, Before regasketing FMIC Connection

Stage 0, After
https://datazap.me/u/gatorb8/boost-l...ta=2-3-9-24-31

Does not seem to be building boost past a few PSI. WGDC seems to stay way low.

Any recommendations are greatly appreciated. As anyone who's experienced this one knows, not knowing what the hell to fix is the worst part.

Have you tried to switch back to the oem chargepipe? I find aftermarket sometimes with bad seals, on the tmap sensor or on the throttlebody...

Your WGDC is never close to 90/100% on applying full throttle - as I understand in Spool mode it has to be up here, or the wastegates are not closing at all and pressure doesn't build (as shown in the graphs)

Maybe something more ECU/Flash related, than mechanical ?

I tossed the OEM one during our last move. The current CP was in the loop when i did the pressure test and I did not observe any leaking. I plugged the two intake air pipes leaving the air box and the pcv, and put about 10 PSI on the entire system.

That's what's throwing me for a loop. It's like the boost system is not requesting enough WGDC to build the boost to target. It did it on both Stage 2+, 2, and 0, I guess I could reflash the backup stock map.

Can those little boost control solenoids cause a 30FF code? (I don't really know cause i'm ST and deleted them) Check the vacuum canisters near the coolant reservoir for cracked nipples or bad vacuum lines.

Check your blow off valves & throttle body gasket.

VRSF does make an aluminum lower charge pipe.

Turbo actuators would be my next guess.

Check all vac lines. If you are over 100k, replace them.

Check the connection points where the OEM inlets connect into the turbos. They are rather flimsy and are not clamped on at all.

So boost control solenoids are each outputing 15 inhg at idle, same as the input, canisters seem to hold vacuum well after shutdown. Under 15 inhg, I can hear the front actuator move, and the rear moves approximately 1/2",

Front DV seems to function correctly under "lung" pressure, still need to hit the rear. No leak at TB gasket under 10 PSI full intake pressurization.

Still need to check Inlet to turbo connections.

It is strange that stage 0 is requesting load in the 160 and 150s.

Victory!!

https://datazap.me/u/gatorb8/boost-l...data=3-9-24-31

It was the leak at the hot side of the intercooler. Replaced the rubber portion of the hot charge pipe with ARM Motorsports silicone version and hitting target now. The connection was moving enough that it tore the new gasket I put in in half.

Once I got it back together, first hit and I fouled a COP! Quick stop by the parts store for a new one and running like a top.

Thanks everyone for the input!
