Quick question on Credit Union checks
A guy came buy a few days ago and looked at the car I listed for sale. He's coming by today with a check from his CU. I was wondering what I should do to protect myself.
So far I thought of calling the CU and verify it or go cash it at my bank right away. Any thought? Thanks in advance |

I would think you could call his CU to verify. Mostly I'm responding to subscribe to this thread, because I wonder, too.

If it's a "bank check" similar to what any standard bank would issue it would be fine. If it's a personal check, I wouldn't take it.
A "bank check" would have the amount in print, instead of being hand written. |

Bank checks and cashiers checks are 'cash equivalent', so it should be OK. I would still ask the guy to wait till Monday so that your bank can verify it. If he wants to car today, he will wait until Monday.
Just got the check and handed over the title to my M3 yesterday |

Make sure it's a certified bank cheque or bank draft, stamped, signed and amount printed by the bank. I would also go as far as bringing it into the same bank that issued it to verify it or having your bank call it in to verify it once you deposit.
