Would love to see a guide some day on how you go about rebuilding these--I have two that I'm inspecting in preparation for the 3SI and I'm not sure how much play is acceptable, or if I should just get a metal rebuild kit. I did manage to rip apart the big DISA and tested the motor but that's far as I've gone. Guess the only part now is to seal them back up and test on the car via INPA.

I haven't gotten as far as you yet, but I want to know about the "modifying" part. I want to know about the rebuilding part too before I get that far.

Accidentally committed to buying a euro intake on eBay from Germany. The language barrier may have been a factor, but anyway, euro airbox on the way!

Cannot wait to be able to occasionally run it with the lid off and hear that N52 howl.

Woke up this morning and am trying to find the motivation to replace all of the vacuum lines on the E93 in the hopes I can squash this 30ff code and enjoy my car before the snow flies Monday! I bought all new vacuum lines when I bought the car knowing this would come. 2nd cup of coffee and the motivation still isn't there yet!!! Wish me luck! Lol

It's not that bad of a job. Crack open a beer and get at it. It took me about an hour and a half from start to all cleaned up and tools away.

Enabled cold start noise reduction on MHD. I don't know why I didn't do this sooner. I feel much better starting the car early in the morning or late at night. But the start up roar stays

M3 bushings fit so much better than stock on xi tension struts.

Cost breakdown:
$60 used tension struts
$40 M3 Bushings
$0 Shortened by machine shop
$50 to install the bushings
Total: $150

Total to buy new stock tension struts:
$160

Saved $10 and I get an upgrade, sounds like a decent deal to me

Alright Jake I got your pics, lol.

Pic 1 - OFH off, PCV line ready to go to replace the broken vacuum line

Pic 2 - Found a much better route for the ratchet, wish we had realized this sooner lol. Removing the airbox as well as the front intake duct helped a ton

Pic 3 - All buttoned up

Also torque for those are 16ft lbs

In my opinion no play is acceptable once the flap is assembled and has been actuated a couple times as the shaft will tighten up inside the flap when it's moved, sometimes right after assembly it might seem a tiny bit loose due to backlash between the gears or between the input hex drive of the shaft and the inside of the flap (which you don't wanna see) apart from knowing by feel which I kind of do after messing with so many it's hard to convey what play is okay but after actuating it there should be none. Metal rebuild kits are nice but they aren't an option for me as my 3 stage manifold swap kits are meant to be a budget option which is gonna be solid but uses oem revised parts. I don't think they're necessary but if you have worn shaft/flap you might wanna get it. I've had to rework many boards before and replace components out of spec or that were malfunctioning only at specific temperatures so hopefully yours works fine while testing it.

Might be the angle, but looks like your belt is starting to walk off your tensioner pulley.

Yep it looks like it, might replace the belt anyways. It was sitting for about a year or so before we bought it

Report from a previous post.

I said oil was leaking on my exhaust, and there were heavy smoke every morning. (not too safe) ;

So I did :

- ofhg (not really related)
- valvetronic gasket
- retight the valve cover bolts.
- 5w-30 liqui moly
- 1/3 bottle lucas oil stabilizer.
- extinguisher in the car. (lol)

So far, its been 2 weeks, never experiencing the smoke issue. Can't tell which one fix it.

Thx Colorado I snaked my wobble extension like you said w/ a u-joint and 1/4" E10 socket, (being careful not to break the vacuum line), came off easy. My coolant hose also came apart like yours did, just rotted to crumbles. I have the flange area soaking a bit till I clean it up and install the aluminum block hose.
