How much for new BMW key?

Hey guys! Had anyone bought a new/spare key for their car?

How much did it cost?
Do I have to get it done from a BMW service center?

Thanks

I looked into it for my car a few weeks ago, at the Bayside BMW service center () and I was quoted ~$200

Just paid $240 plus tax for one at the dealer. Gave them my DMV registration and they coded it to the car before I picked it up.

I know it sounds a bit OCD, but my current key fob (Non-CA) is in pretty rough shape. Rather than purchase a new one at the dealer, could I purchase one on eBay and have them program it to my vehicle. I would then just replace the actual key part of the new fob with my current key.

My thoughts exactly. The one that came with my car didn't even have the bmw logo.

I bought a $30 used (new condition) key on eBay (same frequency as mine, check on back, there are like 4-5 diff. frequencies) to try and swap out the housings as I'm pretty handy with this sort of stuff.

I couldn't get the fob apart! No matter how much heat, prying, etc., nothing would separate the housing. I ended up using the aluminum buttons and center logo from the purchased fob, but had to leave it at that.

Keys fell out of my pocket this morning while shoveling snow and ice. 3 different car manufacturers on the key ring (BMW, Toyota, and Honda). Contacted Jason at Tischer and it was slightly under $300 with tax for both the remote (I have comfort access - 2007 335 e92) and the key. I would have to go in person with the title and picture id to pick it up at the parts counter. Probably about $500 for all the keys on that ring, and 4 hours of time.

Paid the neighboor's 14 year old $20 to start looking. After 2 hours he found where I had shoveled them behind and evergreen. Handed him another $80.

That was a relief.

FWIW on my car the part numbers were:

66120413694 for the remote

51217069547 for the slide in key

3 months ago I lost both my fobs and had to have 2 brand new fobs ordered and worked for my car from dealer. Cost ~$500 for both which I actually thought was decent. Further info in my stats if needed.
