Neither of you have headers though, correct?

OEM header here.

Reminder for those with SC, check your V3's oil level every other week or so, oil do weep from the venting plug if you drive the car hard.

Thanks, and good call and have seen the red fluid come through. How often do you top off? And during change do you need full bottle as the come? Cheers

Just did the break in fluid swap-
Took me just slightly less than a bottle that came with the kit.

Noir, did you dyno your car with your S/C and MILVs?

I think if I came across a good deal on a S/C kit, I'll have to jump on it. That's the last step in maximizing my N52, too.

Thumbs up

Subbed. When I buy a new car for DD I think I'm going to do this to my E90 N51. All these posts have convinced me...

Edit: Just read that the ESS Supercharger kit is not available for N51 engines... Anyone know why that is the case?

Maybe tune related... I couldn't tell you, to be completely honest. I feel like it must have been mentioned at some point in the forum.

Wow. That's not good PR for ESS haha. Hope N52 guys aren't having as much trouble. Don't seem to be, especially with BPC able to tune them now. Needs to work with headers

It's funny because my idle is smoother when my AC is on lol. Still a little bouncy when I'm at a light with my AC off. Somedays it's kinda iffy but at this point I'm kinda desensitized a little bit. I push the car kinda hard most of the time. The idle may not be perfect, but it wasn't that bad in comparison to the 1'er in that thread.

I actually had a couple moments today where I broke traction for a brief moment! Indicator came on and everything hahaha. It was like 57F this morning and the car digged it!
Again, super happy about being Fall and all that.

If I remember correctly the reason is that N51 needs to run MAF and yet ESS is unable to tune the SC to work with it. N52 on the other hand works perfectly with Alpha-N so it's not an issue.

It's all based on forum post, I have no idea how much credit there is to the statement.

Good man, my idle is as smooth or smoother than previous setup with AA and 3-stage, it has never bounced around or hesitated/missed on Alfa tune. Been a very impressive experience so for, literally P&P!

So is everyone getting used to all that Supercharger Power!!!

I believe everyone is running the stock ESS SC pulley of 4.50"/115mm, which makes max 5.5-6.0psi at 7000-7500rpm.

Today I dropped off a 4.25"/108mm SC pulley at my machinist friend. He will make a 2mm spacer with a keyway notch and machine some off the front and back of the pulley. So the belt grooves will line up.

ESS uses a slightly different pulley offset so you can't just buy a smaller pulley from Vortech and bolt it on, the belt will not line up.

This size pulley will make the same max boost of 5.5-6.0psi at 500 lower engine rpm.
So you will have 500 more rpm to make more boost. How much more? IDK. This is all new territory. Maybe 1psi more boost. "Start low and go slow", That's how I like to proceed when upping the boost.

I can also get smaller pulleys and have them modified.
4.10"/104mm
3.80"/96.5mm
3.60"/91.5mm
3.40"/86.4mm

I also don't know at what smaller size pulley you would need a shorter serpentine belt.

Keep us posted, and definitely interested to see. Would you not need to re-tune to calibrate A-F ratio as boost is increased at lower RPM and increased at redline as well. Thoughts?

Good question. Maybe BPC or other tuners have an answer.

My thought is that alphaN tune might need a tweak as it is based off throttle position.
Other non-alphaN might be OK but IDK for sure.

Unfortunately another dyno session might be needed.

Yeh, I think I confirmed my need for a retune when I asked about requirements for upping the boost-
