aftermarket headunit - what else do I need?
I'm considering the option of going aftermarket head unit rather than retro fit iDrive...
I've got a couple of questions... 1) Will I lose anything (parking sensor beeps, chimes, settings menu etc) if I removed my oem head professional head unit? 2) What other kit will I need such as harness, fascia etc other than the headunit? 3) How easy is it to install (Couldn't find no DIY in search) 4) What do people think about this head unit? http://www.caraudiocentre.co.uk/prod...5r_p-28178.htm |

You could spend the best part of a grand installing that & devalue the car, or you could spend a bit more & increase the value of the car, or at least have parts you can recover most of you're money on, bit of a no brainer in my opinion.

If you're willing to spend that much on just the unit, i'd say save £600 more and you got yourself a retrofit.
Regarding aftermarket systems, my hierarchy usually goes from pioneer to kenwood and then everything else. If you need a temporary solution until you can afford a retrofit, then i'd say go with a used one. Just make sure you keep all the bits. If you do need a temporary solution, i have this available. http://www.gumtree.com/p/cars-vans-m...tem/1045585915 You'll also need a connect 2 double din kit to fit and relocate your (heated seats buttons if it applies)unit. http://www.dynamicsounds.co.uk/conne...20%C2%A3112.99 This costs another £110 or so and don't forget the patch lead. Fitting it, i'd advise to get someone who knows what they're doing. All in all, if you can afford this, you probably can afford a retrofit from Makkan. It makes better sense. You could also start buying your parts yourself in bits as and when you have the cash.

Pioneer is my favourite too, but their double din units are a bit blingy and just don't have the sound quality, no paramtric EQ, no Time Alignment, and then doesn't have things like a light sensor so the screen doesn't dim with the cabin.
But still better to go with the BMW CIC on the e90 imho, as double din doesn't doesn't look right. |
