JB4 at WOT problem

Hey guys, I was wondering if anyone had any answers to this. Last night I did a WOT to 6.5k rpm and as soon as it hit like 5.5 the car made this really weird stutter/ loss of power sound and the engine light came on. So i pulled into a random street and as soon as i gave it a little gas it had like no power and stuttered.

So i turned it off and put the reader in, gave me code P0305 (looks like a cylinder misfire or coils from what i read). So next i turned JB4 off and started it up again and everything was fine, i drove it down the street and no issues.

I had JB4 set to map 5 (usually its on 1 but sometimes i run 5 for some fun when its cold out). I was running 94 oct. AA Catless dp, UR full exhaust, stett CAI.

Anyone know what the problem could've been? im afraid to turn JB4 back on again. Any help is appreciated!

When was the last time you changed your plugs? And how many miles on the car?

p0305 is a misfire in cylinder 5.. So i would start with changing your spark plugs since its the cheapest and then if the code persists swap coil packs from cylinder 5 to a different cylinder and see if the code follows the coil pack to a different cylinder

Ok ill do that, thanks for the advice. Do you think its ok to drive the car for the next 2 days like this? since i have nothing else to drive until i go to the mechanic. I drove to work this morning and didnt notice any issues, neither did i go over 4k rpm just to be safe.

Yes just don't go to WOT. Its the boost pressure picking out weak points, plugs/coils, in your car causing the misfire. Good plan is to change plugs every 25K miles on a boosted car.

Yea thats probably it, hmm its weird that they'e gone bad already since i did change them about 15k miles ago. But ill have them looked at and probably changed again. I doubt ill be running Map 5 anymore... too much boost is causing problems.

You can always check the gap on the plugs and make sure it's in spec. One of the culprits of the misfire is the gap increases over time as the strap wears. A quick fix is to make sure the gap is in spec. A second free fix is if you have a misfire on cyl 5 for example, you swap that coilpack to another cylinder say 3 and see if the misfire moves. If it stays at 5 it's plug or something else. If the misfire moves to the new location it could be an indication of coilpack going bad.

I noticed you said 20K and now 15K. If you are not sure I would just change the plugs anyway.

Make sure you get a picture of the plugs and which cylinder they came from. In case you end up with another issue the plugs can tell a lot of about what's going in your engine. IE if one has excessive fuel on it that could be an indication of a leaky fuel injector.

I've had a similar problem awhile back when I first installed my JB4. I found that you have to make sure you're at default settings for your firmware. I haven't had any problems since. Here's the link to the thread I started awhile ago.

BTW a new interface was just released so you might want to try that with the latest firmware. IIRC is 25.6hex & the interface is 9/12/13

I had a similar problem a few weeks ago. Some guy was tailgating me in like a 25 mph zone. I get frustrated slowed down to under 20 and grapped first gear and nailed it. after about 5-10 MPH it just broke apart the ignition was almost nothing. I could barely even keep the speed limit. It took me almost two minutes to find a place to pull over then even before I could turn off the ignition everything was fine again. WOT and everything with no hiccups.

Hey i have the normal JB4 without the G5/iso upgrade and i cant seem to find the latest firmware for it anywhere.. all the latest ones are for the G5 ISO.

Are they even releasing updates for the normal JB4 still?
