I just got a "Daytime Running/parking Lamp" warning on the screen. Turns out my left angel light bulb died.
Searched around and found many post, confusing posts, most of which did not point me to the right direction. Most stated that I needed to go through the wheel well, which was not true for my case.

Here is how to replace the Daytime running/parking lamp bulb for a 2010 335i Xdrive N54 with Adaptive Xeon lights.


This is the error i got:


These are my headlights. Notice a single ring on the outside light.


This is what the top of the headlight assembly looks like. You will notice a top compartment with 3 screws. Inside this compartment is the halogen bulb for the cornering light. That is the one that lights up when on reverse or when taking corners.



This is what the back of the headlight looks like.
In the middle of this picture you can see a circular cap with fins. This is where the angel light bulb resides in. Just twist and remove the cap.


Once removed, you will be able to see the light bulb. To remove, twist towards the center of the car. Right side twists left, left side twists right.


These are both the original and the replacement. Light bulb is a H8 12V 4300k 35w. Bought at Autozone for $13.


Warning: As with any light bulb, do not touch the glass. The oil in hands will decrease the bulb's life (or that is what people say).

Before attempting to plug light bulb, remove the unneeded rubber washers from the new bulb. I made the mistake to not do this and could not install the new bulb.

Install the new bulb in plug.
Plug the new bulb into head light assembly. Try not get all cut up while installing the bulb back in.
Twist to secure bulb.

If it helps, you can remove the top cap that covers halogen bulb to help with install. You can peek inside and see if you are installing the bulb correctly.


Once done, reinstall the circular cap and try it out.

I always dread when I have to replace these. My hands are large so fitting the bulb in there can be frustrating...

If I'm understanding this correctly, this can be done entirely with only the hood up?

Oh cool - I just went out and checked my light (driver's side AE went out this morning), and it's the same as yours.

I know this is an old post, but I had to say thanks.

Like you, on experiencing this warning I was confused with what I found. Some posts had this as a multiple hour fix, while others had it at ~10 min. What was worse was I couldn't find the right part to purchase. I tried the dealership, and they were useless; Wouldn't even give me a part number.
