Does anyone have a source for a discounted E90 Short Shift knob? Can't seem to find a dealer near me who will discount parts.

Whalen shift machine FTW!!!!11 It's actually the same knob I had on my e36 M3 and i was shocked when it fit perfectly on the e92. It's got my name on it, bmw checkered flag, and the 5 Speed shift pattern layout. One day i'll have a 6th speed engraved on it but for now i like it as is. reminds me of my old M3!

I just ordered the perforated shift knob from Tishcer BMW. I will put it on when I install the short shift kit. I dont like the shift knob that came with the short shift kit.

Just ordered the ZHP knob with plain 6 speed insert from Leatherz (no "M" since mine isn't). I hope it's as easy to install as I've heard. Pull off, pop on, right?

Yeah if it isn't illuminated, it's quite simple to install...just yank off the old one and plug on the new one. Takes a few tugs to get it off tho... |

Yeah, ordered this one - you can even pick your choice of insert which is cool since I didn't want "M" (not unless I have the real thing) and 5 or 6 speed: http://leatherz.com/Merchant2/mercha...ory_Code=Knobs Great thread by the way!

yeah, the new M3's shift knob doesnt look like a short knob. in the photo on M3post (link below), it does look more rich and 'leathery' than the photos of the new shift knob in this thread, but the stitching pattern is the same. I wouldnt mind getting it if available without the ///M on the top.

I got the shift knob from Leatherz and took a few shots before installing it. I can't vouch for the accuracy of my food scales but I weighed both knobs anyway. Install was easy. About the time you think the OEM knob is never going to come off it's in your hand. I didn't drive that much after the install as it was rush hour but I'll get to play this weekend.

Also...if you haven't done it already, you should look into getting your CDV deleted (or modified). It really helps smooth out your gear changes... |

Yeah, I'm definitely thinking about it. I live in a condo so will likely have to find someone in Atlanta familiar with doing this mod. The shifting is fine when driving aggressively (shifting >= 3500rpm) but when driving sedately (or when the car is cold) the 1-->2 shifts can be annoying.

This thread is amazing. I've never read a thread so detailed and long on shift knobs!
As you can read in the main forum, I am considering an E90 (used) purchase today and am definitely interested in changing out the long stock shift knob. I went to Tischer BMW's website and they have a 6-speed illuminated knob for $140. Part number: 25119415379 I would be looking to get the best short shift knob possible... They also have the E90 M-knob and boot and e-brake handle for $133... Then they have the BMW Performance Shift Kit for $183. I don't know what to do.... I don't mind spending $200 for something pretty awesome...It seems people are pretty happy with the $133 short knob and e-brake kit... Are these easily swappable? |

The BMW Performance Short Shift kit is not just a knob. It also includes a shortened shift lever to be installed. This is a bit more involved...but will significantly reduce the throw. I think you would be happy with the ///M knob. Why don't you get that first. If you'd like to shorten the throw of the shifts even more, get the Short Shift kit installed. |
