Sound upgrade or lots of functions

Is the question you have answer?
Most of these head units by themselves without additional speakers
and amps are not going give you a huge sound upgrade .
See the audio upgrade path at the top of the page in the stickys.
The dynavin comes closest to a factory look.
Most of the bezels for the others come off looking kind of crappy.

yeah def im not looking just to have a great sound only changing the stereo, im planning to a full upgrade (amps, speakers, subs, etc) but i want to start withe the stereo.

Basically im looking for one that looks good and similar to a OEM but have to have a GPS, i hate have to be carring around the GPS.

i was really interested on the dynavin, but after i read a lot of threads /reviews for that unit now im not quite sure if i want it.

in my other car i had Eclipse Amps, JL subs, DLS systems, but for the BMW just starting from the stereo is not just put whatever random unit, i started to realize that is a lil pain in the ass do an upgrade

If you can deal with the learning curve, i love my Dynavin. Just takes some getting used to like most new electronics. Its not as intuitive as a larger name brand unit or OEM.

What is the OEM option? Is this a built in headunit, or do you mean ordering with idrive?

Dynavin over OEM.....simply because Dynavin has touchscreen which the OEM navi is not capable of. Also it's already set up to play DVD's, bluetooth and backup camera, something you won't get from retrofitting the navi alone.

I actually missed that nav was a requirement. In that case dynavin or pioneer. For SQ without nav the oem HU coded to HiFi is great. You can also do the portable gps or w station for iphone, both of which integrate with the OEM HU.

Are there any good pioneer gps head units that can be controlled by the steering wheel controls? What about bluetooth?

all the pioneers have a remote input, you would need a PAC steering wheel interface.

I had a avic double din in my e46 and I now have dynavin in my e90.....avic used PAC steering wheel module for controls and had excellent Bluetooth abilities.
I really enjoyed my pioneer, but the things that bothered me about my avic my dynavin does well, and also visa versa. Pioneer has a much better user interface.

I love my Pioneer Z130bt. I chose it over the Dynavin for a few reasons, but mostly because the Dynavin doesn't allow for a Satellite tuner to be plugged in. The interface is ugly, and not user friendly and the bottom of the faceplace isn't flush with the dash (not dynavins fault really as there isn't room below for the HVAC controls to recess into the dash).

For me it was the little things like station presets not having the station name (Just the frequency like 100.3), no satellite radio, etc ...

My Pioneer bluetooth is great, syncs up nicely and I used the PAC to get steering wheel controls. I can even answer a call with the phone button.

Some people say the reception is choppy but I personally haven't had any issues with it whatsoever. However I did not follow Dynavin's instructions of where to mount the GPS receiver (which is behind the stereo). Instead, i mounted it where the center channel speaker would be near the windshield. It works flawlessly for me, I just hit the "NAV" button and it loads the nav system immediately. I have Sygic as the nav software and its pretty user friendly. Unfortunately unless you connect it via internet, i don't believe you will get traffic reports.

thanks for the info!!

i read a lot about the Dynavin but nobody says too much about the GPS, and actually thats the main reason why I'm thinking change the stereo, maybe I'm just going to choose a pioneer or something like that, with a GPS on real time
